Senior Finance Analyst
Leading Renewable Energy Developer
Durham (Hybrid Working)

Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 DOE + Excellent Benefits Package
Working Pattern: 3 days per week in the Durham office

Ascent Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Finance Analyst to join its Finance team in Durham.

Our client is one of the UK's most exciting renewable energy businesses, delivering some of the country's largest and most innovative onshore wind, solar and battery energy storage projects.

About the role:

As a Senior Finance Analyst, you'll work closely with Finance, IT and senior stakeholders to deliver high-quality financial analysis, reporting and business insights. You'll help develop and enhance the systems, models and processes that underpin management reporting, forecasting and strategic planning activities across the Group.

This role offers a unique blend of financial analysis, systems development and business partnering, making it ideal for someone who enjoys turning complex data into meaningful commercial insights.

Somebody with experience and a strong background in managing forecasting through complex data sets and analysing data, with demonstrable skills across systems like Excel / Power Query / SQL / Power BI would be well suited.

Systems & Process Development

  • Develop, improve and maintain financial models that support business performance and reporting requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance and IT teams to enhance and maintain a centralised financial database, ensuring data accuracy, accessibility and consistency across the business.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to automate processes and improve efficiency.
  • Leverage Microsoft 365 tools, including emerging AI capabilities, to enhance reporting, analysis and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure models, processes and reporting tools are scalable, user-friendly and well-documented.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Support the production of monthly management accounts and financial reporting across the Group.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and long-term business planning activities, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and KPI reporting.
  • Analyse historical and current financial performance to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Provide financial modelling and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Assist with external reporting requirements and audit processes.
  • Deliver ad hoc analysis and reporting for the CFO, Finance Director and wider senior leadership team.

We're looking for a commercially minded and analytically driven professional who combines strong financial knowledge with excellent technical and problem-solving skills.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified or part-qualified.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, planning and analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modelling.
  • Exceptional analytical and numerical abilities.
  • Experience mapping business processes and working with data models.
  • Knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Power BI and SQL.
  • Experience working with large datasets and reporting systems.
  • Previous experience within an infrastructure, energy, utilities or renewable energy environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex information to non-financial stakeholders.
