The team works closely with Finance, Payroll, Tax, Human Resources, Technology, and audit stakeholders to support financial compliance and informed decision-making. This role reports to the Cost Accounting Finance Manager. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

Role Overview And Core Responsibilities

The Senior Financial Control Analyst is a 6-month fixed-term position providing continuity during a secondment. The role delivers accurate and timely accounting across payroll, month-end close, balance sheet control, fixed assets, and capital expenditure while maintaining robust documentation and effective financial controls.

Day To Day You’ll Be

  • Prepare and post monthly payroll journals across legal entities and cost centres, reconcile payroll and employee-related balance sheet accounts, and resolve identified variances.
  • Produce payroll, headcount, and employee-cost reporting, including actual-to-forecast analysis, while maintaining bonus, Long-Term Incentive Plan, and employer National Insurance accruals and supporting Employee Stock Purchase Plan reconciliations.
  • Deliver month-end journals, accruals, prepayments, recharges, and intercompany reconciliations with complete and appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Review income statement and balance sheet movements, investigate variances, provide clear commentary, and work with process owners to validate balances and resolve accounting queries.
  • Prepare and certify balance sheet reconciliations in BlackLine, resolving or escalating aged, material, or unsupported items and maintaining audit-ready control evidence.
  • Manage the monthly project-costing and capitalisation process, including rates, coding, journals, reconciliations, and Work in Progress reviews.
  • Apply group accounting policy when classifying capital and operating expenditure, assess projects for capitalisation, and reconcile the fixed asset register to the general ledger.
  • Prepare capital expenditure returns, support impairment reviews, and assist with research and development expenditure analysis and tax credit claims.
  • Maintain relevant audit, tax, and professional-fee accruals, prepare Value Added Tax adjustments, support annual employee-tax reporting processes, and escalate control failures, compliance issues, or missed deadlines.

Required Knowledge And Experiences

  • Part-qualified or qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA, or equivalent practical accounting experience that provides the knowledge required to perform the role.
  • Strong experience of month-end accounting, payroll accounting, balance sheet control, and fixed assets or capital expenditure.
  • Experience preparing robust reconciliations, investigating accounting issues, and maintaining complete, audit-ready supporting evidence.
  • Working knowledge of financial-control principles, with the ability to apply accounting policies and escalate judgemental, material, or unsupported items appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver accurate outputs within established reporting deadlines.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
