As we continue to grow, evolve and integrate new services, we're looking for a Senior Financial Controls Manager to help ensure our financial governance, reporting and control environment remains industry-leading.
This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a complex and varied financial controls function within a large charitable group, influencing senior stakeholders whilst leading critical statutory reporting, audit, treasury and compliance activities.
This is a full time permanent role with attendance at our head office in Widnes required at least once a week so our ideal candidate will be based within an hours commute of Widnes.

As our Senior Financial Controls Manager, you'll be the technical finance expert responsible for maintaining the integrity of our financial reporting and control framework.
Reporting into the Head of Financial Controls, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring robust governance, supporting acquisitions and integrations, coordinating external audits, strengthening financial processes, and providing assurance to the Executive Leadership Team and Board.

Your expertise will help safeguard our organisation's financial future, enabling us to continue investing in the people and communities we support.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll lead a broad portfolio of technical finance responsibilities, including:
- Maintaining and strengthening the organisation's financial control framework
- Owning balance sheet integrity and producing monthly balance sheet and cash flow reporting
- Leading the preparation and review of statutory accounts and financial statements
- Coordinating the consolidation of group and subsidiary accounts
- Managing external audit relationships and ensuring successful audit delivery
- Overseeing compliance submissions including HMRC, ONS, Gift Aid and other regulatory requirements
- Leading treasury accounting, liquidity reporting and cash flow forecasting
- Supporting business acquisitions, mergers and integrations from a finance perspective
- Driving financial process improvement and reducing manual intervention through smarter controls and systems
- Translating complex accounting matters into clear, meaningful insights for senior leaders and trustees
- Leading, coaching and developing a high-performing finance team
What We're Looking For
We're seeking an experienced technical finance professional who combines strong commercial awareness with exceptional attention to detail.
Essential:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
- Significant experience within financial accounting, financial controls, audit or statutory reporting
- Strong understanding of UK accounting standards, financial regulations and governance requirements
- Experience producing consolidated group accounts
- Experience managing and coordinating external audits
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong leadership experience with a track record of developing teams
- Advanced Excel skills
Highly Desirable:
- Experience working within a charity or not-for-profit environment
- M&A accounting and business integration experience
- Exposure to complex group structures
- Experience leading finance transformation or control improvement projects
