Senior Financial Crime Investigator
About the Role
As a Senior Financial Crime Investigator, you will play a critical role in protecting the organisation and its customers from fraud and financial crime risks. Acting as a subject matter expert in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and fraud prevention, you will lead complex investigations, provide specialist guidance, and act as a key escalation point for Financial Crime Investigators and wider business stakeholders. This role involves escalating and handling calls competently and promptly.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead investigations into transaction monitoring alerts, suspicious activity referrals, and high-risk customer cases across retail and corporate products.
- Conduct Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), and Know Your Customer (KYC) assessments.
- Analyse transactional behaviour and identify potential financial crime risks.
- Produce high-quality investigation rationales to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and quality-check Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), including Defence Against Money Laundering (DAML) submissions.
- Manage stakeholder communication during investigations, including reviewing sanctions and Politically Exposed Person (PEP) screening escalations.
- Handle payment filtering alerts, escalating findings to senior management or second-line risk where necessary.
- Strengthen controls and identify emerging financial crime trends in collaboration with leadership and second-line teams.
- Contribute to quality assurance activities, coach colleagues, and share best practices.
- Deliver management information (MI) and support risk and control self-assessment (RCSA) processes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal policy standards.
- Collaborate with operational teams and relationship managers to support customer outcomes.
