Axion Consultancy Ltd is a specialist fire safety engineering and fire safety compliance business within the Riskhub Group, offering fire safety services including fire risk assessments, fire door inspections, asset surveys, fire strategy and fire engineering services. The team works closely with housing associations, local authorities, and building stock managers to ensure their properties remain safe, compliant, and audit-ready — managing the scheduling, tracking, and completion of large-scale compliance programmes across complex property portfolios. This is a fast-paced, data-intensive operational environment where delivery excellence, analytical rigour, and strong people leadership are essential.

Senior Fire Engineer

Reports to: Fire Engineering Director
Location: London office (Farringdon) — 4 days in office, Fridays remote
Employment Type: Full-time
Hours of work: 40 hours per week

Senior Fire Engineer – Job Description (Core Responsibilities)

  • Advising on applicable codes, standards and guidance, ADB Volume, BS9999, BS9991, PD 7974, PAS9980, HTM guidance and superseded/withdrawn documents for the purposes of retrospective fire strategies;
  • Develop fire engineering justifications and alternative solutions to demonstrate compliance with Building Regulations 2010;
  • Ability to author fire strategy reports for a range of different building types including residential and commercial properties and mixed-use developments;
  • Ability to conduct Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls (FRAEWs) and provide remediation strategies;
  • Act as a checker on reports as part of a three-stage internal review process;
  • Provide support to Junior Fire Engineers and encourage their development; you may be assigned as a buddy to a graduate fire engineer and would be expected to check in with them monthly on progress;
  • Conduct peer reviews;
  • Attend site visits if required for monitoring in RIBA Stage 5;

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of CFD analysis (using Pyrosim/CFAST/FDS);
  • Knowledge of evacuation modelling (Pathfinder/Simulex);
  • Knowledge of Structural Fire Engineering;
  • Knowledge of fire engineering design principles in PD 7974/other fire engineering handbooks such as the SPFE handbook, CIBSE Guide E etc;
  • Project Management Experience – Ability to successfully manage projects from RIBA Stages 1-5 (handover), act as a primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects, generally for a senior engineer these would be projects in the range of £1 Million to £20Million in value and would depend on project complexity suitable for a senior to manage;
  • Attend client design team meetings in person or remotely where possible;
  • Ensure consistency in technical quality and communication with clients;
  • Attending client events and contributing to business development;
  • Maintain a CPD log with an aim to become a member of your desired institution or chartered (IFE, CIBSE, SPFE etc).

  • Strong time management and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Qualifications/Experience

  • BEng/MEng in Fire Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline;
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with IFE, IMechE, or equivalent institution, or working towards chartership;
  • Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE) or equivalent professional body (desirable);
  • 4-6 Years industry experience in Fire Engineering.

The role is based in our London hub, located in Farringdon for 4 days office based and Friday working from home.

Interview Process

Our goal is to keep the interview process fairly simple to keep you engaged, but thorough enough to help us each understand if we're a good fit for each other.

This is what the process will look like for this role:

Step 1: 15-min initial meeting with the HR Manager to discuss your background and experience, so that we can understand if your skills and expertise match what we're looking for.

Step 2: 60-min in-person meeting with the Fire Engineering Director and a member of our Senior leadership team. This may include a short practical exercise or case study.

Throughout the process we'll give you insights into Axion and Riskhub, our current product suite and vision for the future. We welcome any questions as we want to make sure you're joining a team and company you'll be excited to be part of.
