Senior Fire Protection Design Engineer
Permanent Full-Time
Salary – Circa £55,000 DOE
Location – Hybrid, Remote Reading
Join a market leader specialising in bespoke fire detection and suppression systems, delivering end-to-end design, installation, and 24/7 maintenance. Operating as part of a wider safety group, the business predominantly serves critical infrastructure and complex data centres.
Due to rapid business growth and an expanding portfolio of high-value critical infrastructure projects, they are looking for a Senior Fire Protection Design Engineer to join their growing design department. This is an urgent, high-impact hire where you will shape technical delivery, mentor junior engineers, and drive innovative 3D/BIM solutions across the business.
Responsibilities
- Lead all technical design activities, including system schematics, layouts, hydraulic calculations, and 3D/BIM models for active fire protection systems
- Produce detailed engineered system designs and technical submissions compliant with relevant UK, European, and international standards (e.g., BS 5839, BS 5266, BS 7671, BS 9251 / BS 8489, and NFPA)
- Generate, review, and issue as-built drawings, Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals, and technical build budgets prior to procurement or site mobilisation
- Work closely with sales, estimating, commercial, and operational delivery teams to provide technical design input for tender proposals, bids, and client presentations
- Review technical submissions, mentor junior design engineers, and drive continuous improvement across internal design processes and CAD/BIM standards
- Provide specialist engineering advice during project delivery, on-site installation, and commissioning phases

Experiences required
- Demonstrable experience using Autodesk Revit (or equivalent 3D parametric software such as ArchiCAD or Vectorworks) alongside standard 2D AutoCAD
- Proven track record in designing water-based suppression systems (Sprinklers and/or Watermist), including performing detailed hydraulic calculations (e.g., using FHC or similar software)
- HNC, HND, or Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Broad knowledge covering Fire Detection & Alarm systems (BS 5839), Emergency Lighting (BS 5266), and Gaseous Suppression systems desirable
- Strong understanding of BIM Level 2/ISO 19650 coordination and clash detection workflows desirable
- Industry certifications such as FIA Modules, LPCB Competency Schemes, or Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH Working Safely) desirable
- Full UK Driving Licence and pre-existing Right to Work in the UK
