Background
Croydon Council continues to invest heavily in its housing stock, regeneration projects and resident safety programmes. With increasing legislative requirements and a strong commitment to compliance, the Council is expanding its Fire and Building Safety capability to ensure the highest standards of fire safety management are maintained across its residential portfolio.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced fire safety professional to play a key role in protecting residents and supporting the delivery of a robust fire safety strategy.
Your New Role
As Senior Surveyor - Fire Safety, you will lead the operational delivery of fire safety compliance activities across Croydon's housing portfolio.
Reporting to the Senior Fire and Building Safety Manager, you will manage fire risk assessment programmes, oversee remedial works, provide technical expertise on active and passive fire protection measures, and ensure compliance with all relevant fire safety legislation.

You will work closely with contractors, consultants, residents and internal stakeholders, managing projects from inception through to completion while ensuring quality, value for money and regulatory compliance.
The role will also involve leading a small specialist team, conducting inspections and audits, managing budgets, and supporting wider building safety initiatives across the Council.
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and related building regulations.
- Proven experience managing fire safety compliance within the residential housing sector.
- Experience commissioning, reviewing and managing Fire Risk Assessments and associated remedial programmes.
- Strong technical knowledge of active and passive fire protection systems and their installation requirements.
- Experience managing contractors, consultants and specialist compliance services.
- Ability to produce technical reports, specifications and recommendations.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with a customer-focused approach.
- Good financial and contract management experience.

Qualifications
- RICS-accredited degree, building surveying qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Professional qualification in Fire Safety Management, Fire Risk Assessment or a related fire safety discipline.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Thorough understanding of relevant health and safety legislation.
