Senior Flood Risk & Drainage Engineer | Flood Risk Engineer | Drainage Engineer | Civil Engineer

Bristol | £30,000-£45,000 per annum DOE | Full-Time | Flexible Working | Permanent

Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting for an experienced Senior Flood Risk & Drainage Engineer to join a growing engineering consultancy in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Flood Risk Engineer, Drainage Engineer or Civil Engineer looking for greater project ownership, varied development projects and a clear route for career progression.

You will work on a diverse range of residential and commercial development projects across the South West and beyond, delivering technical flood risk and drainage solutions to support planning applications and development schemes.

The role also offers the opportunity to provide technical guidance to junior team members, work closely with clients and contribute to the continued growth of the business.

Key Duties

  • Produce Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and drainage reports to support residential and commercial development projects.
  • Design sustainable drainage systems and surface water management solutions.
  • Manage projects from initial instruction through to successful delivery.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities and external consultants throughout the development process.
  • Develop technical solutions for flood risk and drainage challenges.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues within the wider engineering team.
  • Support planning applications and development proposals.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Manage multiple projects and competing deadlines effectively.

Requirements

  • Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within a flood risk, drainage or civil engineering consultancy environment.
  • Experience preparing technical reports for planning submissions, including Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and drainage strategies.
  • Working knowledge of industry-standard drainage design software.
  • Experience producing engineering drawings using CAD software.
  • Good understanding of current drainage standards, planning requirements, flood risk and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) principles.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Experience with hydraulic or flood modelling software.
  • Knowledge of drainage approval and adoption procedures.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or technicians.
  • Working towards or holding a professional qualification or Chartered status.
  • Experience contributing to business development activities.
