Senior Food Technologist – NPD & Compliance
London | Hybrid working
£42,000–£48,000 + bonus
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Food Technologist to join a successful and well-established business operating across a wide variety of food categories.
This is a broad technical position combining new product launches, specifications, artwork, legislation, and supplier compliance. You will become an important link between the technical function and colleagues across Procurement, Commercial, Supply Chain, and Project Management.
The role offers plenty of variety and would suit someone who enjoys managing multiple projects, solving problems, and working with both suppliers and customers.
What will you be doing?
- Act as a knowledgeable technical contact for customers, suppliers, and internal teams, responding to product-related questions and approval requests.
- Review and maintain accurate product specifications across internal and customer systems.
- Assess packaging information, product claims, and artwork to ensure all technical and legal information is correct.
- Partner with Procurement and project teams to support the introduction of new and updated products across multiple categories.
- Interpret food legislation and customer requirements, translating them into clear actions for suppliers and colleagues.
- Monitor launch activity, identify potential risks, and help keep projects moving against agreed timescales.
- Evaluate supplier and product information to confirm that food safety, quality, and compliance standards are being met.
- Assist with audit actions, risk assessments, and other technical improvement projects.
- Keep up to date with relevant regulatory developments and help the business respond to any changes.
- Contribute ideas that strengthen technical systems, ways of working, and overall team performance.

What are we looking for?
- At least three years’ experience within a food-industry technical, product, or NPD position.
- A sound understanding of UK food legislation, product labelling, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience working with specifications, packaging information, and artwork approval.
- Previous involvement in launching new products or managing product changes.
- The ability to organise a varied workload and deliver accurately within demanding timescales.
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to work directly with suppliers, customers, and colleagues across different functions.
- A degree-level qualification, ideally in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related subject.
- A practical, analytical approach with strong attention to detail and a willingness to challenge and resolve issues.
- Experience across multiple food categories, stage-gate processes, or different specification platforms would be advantageous.
- HACCP or another recognised food safety qualification would also be beneficial.
