Location: HMP Ashfield, BS16 9QJ

Salary: £63,462 plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Full time, 40 hours per week

Senior Forensic Psychologist – Psychological Services Team

About the Role

As a [Senior Forensic Psychologist] in our Psychological Services team, you’ll deliver high-impact, evidence-based assessments, formulations, and interventions that help create safer outcomes and facilitate meaningful rehabilitation.

Your work will drive positive change in the prison environment as you:

  • Shape and develop psychological services and practices
  • Foster a rehabilitative culture across the institution
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ensure every individual receives the right care and support for a brighter future

What You’ll Do

This role requires you to:

  • Deliver high-quality psychological assessments, formulations, and evidence-based interventions tailored to each individual’s needs.
  • Provide professional consultancy and expert advice within multidisciplinary settings, including:
    • MAPPA (Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangement) discussions
    • Offender Personality Disorder pathways
  • Offer supervision, mentoring, and training to:
    • Junior Forensic Psychologists and Forensic Psychologists in Training (FPiTs)
    • Other colleagues involved in interventions
  • Conduct forensic risk assessments and act as a professional witness in critical hearings, including parole boards and multi-agency settings.
  • Contribute to research, data analysis, and continuous service development within Psychological Services.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • Chartered and Registered status with the Health Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Full membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS) Forensic Psychology Division.
  • Proven experience in working with individuals who have complex needs, specifically in forensic or custodial settings.
  • A positive, results-driven approach that promotes effective change within teams and encourages a collaborative culture.
  • A commitment to maintaining high professional standards, including Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and accreditation requirements.

Vetting & Security

An Enhanced DBS check is required, including details of spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant police information in accordance with safeguarding laws including the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. You’ll also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to assess your suitability for the position.
