Tagup: Senior Forward Deployed Engineer

Tagup is a defense technology company founded at MIT that is delivering logistics decision advantage with next-generation AI. We’re growing rapidly and are looking for change-makers passionate about delivering innovative technologies to solve the most challenging problems in the world’s highest stakes environments. This is an exciting opportunity to engage in meaningful work that strengthens national security and contributes to the success of U.S. and allied forces. Join us in shaping the future of defense logistics for a safer tomorrow.

About the Role

Senior Forward Deployed Engineers lead customer engagements, including our most important ones. You’ll be handed an outcome rather than a specification: a program that needs our platform integrated with government data systems under real constraints. You produce the plan, make the design decisions, build it, and ship it.

You’ll work directly with customer technical staff, debug production issues in their environments, and make the speed-versus-robustness trade-offs that defense delivery demands. You’ll also raise the team around you, reviewing code, mentoring engineers, and setting the standard for how the team builds with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead customer engagements end to end: integration with government data and systems, designed and built under real constraints
  • Turn ambiguous requirements into technical plans, and deliver multi-week engagements without close supervision
  • Build custom workflows that drive adoption, usage, and engagement with key customers
  • Debug production issues in customer environments, including government cloud
  • Document design decisions that hold up under scrutiny, and review code across the team
  • Make sound speed-versus-robustness trade-offs under program constraints
  • Mentor engineers and bring what you learn in the field back to the product team

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Judgment on trade-offs, and the ability to defend a design decision to a skeptical customer engineer and to your own team
  • Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing code across a team
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites (military installations across the U.S.)
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a U.S. government security clearance
