I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
This is hands-on engineering. You will typically be the sole technical seat in a small pod alongside a process owner and a business sponsor, building applications that run multi-step workflows, hold state across many users, and act directly on enterprise systems of record. That is materially harder than a chatbot, and it is the point of the role.
You will build on Microsoft Fabric as our enterprise data platform and on Azure AI services, and you will help set the technical patterns the wider team reuses. If you want to build serious AI systems that change how a 50,000-person business actually works, and you want the autonomy to do it properly, this is the role.
What You Will Do:
- Design, build and harden agentic AI applications that read from and write to enterprise systems of record, grounded on Microsoft Fabric and Azure AI services.
- Embed with a Corporate Function team as the technical lead of a small, multi-functional pod — moving from problem, to prototype, to production at pace.
- Run a tight, iterative build cycle: align on the outcome, prototype, gather feedback, refine and finalize, typically within one to two weeks per loop.
- Own the quality of what you ship end to end — security, reliability, scalability, observability, and safe, governed write-back to source systems.
- Make the right build call for the problem: low-code and agent-builder platforms where they fit, custom code where they do not.
- Ensure the data behind each solution is AI-ready — modelled, governed and documented in Fabric, with lineage and access control that will stand up to audit.
- Set and document the reusable technical patterns, components and guardrails the team applies across every engagement.
- Become credible in a new business domain quickly and challenge requirements constructively to land on the right solution rather than the requested one.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience building agentic or multi-agent AI systems that run in production and serve real users — working systems, not demonstrations.
- Strong command of state management, concurrency, idempotency and authorization for systems that act on a system of record on behalf of many users.
- Substantial software development experience in at least one language such as Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, C# or Java — you can architect, write, review and debug production code.
- Hands-on integration experience with enterprise APIs and data platforms, including designing safe read and write paths and handling failure gracefully.
- Working knowledge of modern AI application patterns — retrieval-augmented generation, prompt and context design, agent orchestration, tool use and protocols such as MCP.
- Strong, hands-on command of a major cloud platform, ideally Azure — able to independently provision, configure, deploy, secure and operate cloud resources, owning an application end to end rather than only consuming pre-built services.
- Demonstrated ability to prototype rapidly, using AI-assisted development and fast iteration to turn a loosely defined idea into something usable in days.
- The judgement and autonomy of a senior individual contributor — able to make sound architecture and feasibility calls alone, under time pressure, and explain them to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience with Microsoft Fabric — Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Real-Time Intelligence, Power BI and OneLake — or a comparable enterprise data platform.
- Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Azure AI Foundry, or agent-builder platforms such as Lyzr or Moveworks.
- Integration experience with major Corporate Function systems of record — for example Oracle HCM, SAP, Workday, Salesforce, Dynamics 365 or ServiceNow.
- Familiarity with enterprise governance concerns: identity and access management, data classification and residency, responsible AI policy, and evaluation of model output.
- A background that blends software engineering with consulting, business transformation or a Corporate Function discipline.
- Experience delivering in short, iterative cycles directly with non-technical business stakeholders.
How We Will Assess You:
- A practical build exercise: take an ambiguous business problem to a working agentic prototype and explain your design trade-offs.
- A systems design discussion covering state, concurrency, authorization and safe write-back to a system of record.
- A stakeholder conversation testing how you scope, challenge and communicate with a non-technical business owner.
