We're looking for an experienced FPGA Engineer to join an engineering team developing advanced FPGA and SoC solutions for high-performance, mission-critical applications. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where you'll play a key role in the design, development and verification of next-generation FPGA architectures.
This role offers a flexible working pattern, with the majority of your time spent working remotely and around one week each month collaborating with the team onsite in Hampshire.
The Role
As an FPGA Engineer, you'll take ownership of FPGA development throughout the full design lifecycle, working closely with systems, electronics and software engineers to deliver robust, high-performance solutions.
You'll contribute to both new product development and the ongoing enhancement of existing platforms, helping shape future technologies through innovative engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and verify FPGA and SoC-based solutions.
- Develop VHDL (and/or Verilog) code for complex FPGA implementations.
- Design and integrate FPGA modules, interfaces and reusable IP cores.
- Support video and RF signal processing applications.
- Perform simulation, verification, bench testing and low-level integration.
- Produce design documentation, verification plans and technical reports.
- Develop System-on-Chip functional architectures.
- Collaborate with electronics engineers on PCB design and component selection.
- Perform timing, latency and power analysis.
- Design test frameworks and verification environments.
- Estimate work packages, identify dependencies and contribute to technical planning.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- 5+ years' experience in FPGA and digital hardware design.
- Strong experience developing and verifying complex FPGA designs using VHDL and/or Verilog.
- Excellent understanding of the complete FPGA development lifecycle.
- Experience with FPGA development tools such as:
- Xilinx Vivado
- Intel Quartus
- ModelSim / QuestaSim
- Experience of timing closure and high-speed digital design.
- Strong documentation and structured design practices.
- Knowledge of Tcl scripting.
- Experience with SoC platforms such as Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ or similar embedded processing devices.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Python or additional scripting languages.
- Video interfaces including MIPI and SDI.
- Circuit design and schematic capture.
- MATLAB or similar modelling tools. Highest preference.
- C++ development.
- High-Level Synthesis (HLS).
- Functional Safety standards (IEC 61508 or ISO 26262).
- GPU or AI hardware development.
- Defence, aerospace or other safety-critical/high-reliability industries.
- Current UK Security Clearance (SC or DV).
