Senior Freight Forwarder (Road Freight) - Ipswich

A growing freight forwarding business is seeking a Senior Freight Forwarder (Road Freight) to join its Ipswich team. The role focuses on managing UK and European general cargo movements, delivering excellent customer service, and driving operational efficiency.

Operating within the general cargo market, the business prides itself on providing exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and tailored supply chain solutions to a diverse customer base.

Following continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced Senior Freight Forwarder (Road Freight) to join their Ipswich office.

Description

The Senior Freight Forwarder will take ownership of managing road freight shipments from start to finish, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective movement of general cargo across domestic and international networks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing full-cycle road freight operations for UK and European general cargo movements.
  • Planning and coordinating FTL and LTL shipments.
  • Building strong relationships with customers, carriers, and subcontractors.
  • Negotiating rates and securing transport capacity.
  • Monitoring shipments and proactively managing service issues.
  • Preparing and checking all relevant transport documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with customs, transport, and industry regulations.
  • Providing accurate quotations and supporting business development activity.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the operations team.
  • Maintaining high levels of customer service and communication throughout the shipment lifecycle.
  • Working closely with internal departments to ensure operational efficiency and service delivery.

Profile

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Proven experience within freight forwarding, with a strong focus on European road freight operations.
  • Experience handling general cargo movements within UK and European markets.
  • Strong knowledge of full-load (FTL), part-load (LTL), and groupage services.
  • Excellent understanding of transport documentation and customs processes.
  • Commercial awareness with experience negotiating rates and managing supplier relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship management skills.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
  • Previous experience in a senior forwarding or supervisory capacity would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of freight management systems and transport planning software.
