Job Opportunity

0.6 FTE · Three days per week · Remote-first

You will have the opportunity to shape two live digital products and play a meaningful part in where they go next.

About the Role

Better Futures Multi-Academy Trust is a group of sixth-form colleges based in the Midlands. Within the Trust, we are developing two products designed to improve leadership development and student feedback in education and potentially beyond.

ARC is a leadership 360 and development platform that helps turn feedback into practical behavioural change.

Swaya is a student feedback and self-assessment app available on iOS and Android.

Both products are live, have paying customers and have reached the stage where the right developer can help take them to the next level.

You will get the ownership and creative freedom associated with early-stage product development, combined with the stability, benefits and backing of an established public-sector organisation.

What You Will Be Doing

You will take technical ownership of ARC and Swaya, working closely with the product leads to shape their development, quality and future roadmap.

Your work will include:

  • Developing and improving an existing Ruby on Rails and React codebase
  • Translating product ideas and user feedback into practical solutions
  • Identifying and resolving technical, product and UX issues
  • Managing updates and releases for the iOS and Android applications
  • Improving platform quality, performance, security and maintainability
  • Contributing to technical decisions and the longer-term product roadmap
  • Delivering improvements that make a noticeable difference to real users
  • Helping establish effective development practices as the products grow

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We Are Looking For

You will ideally have:

  • Strong production experience with Ruby on Rails
  • React frontend development experience
  • A genuine interest in creating high-quality user interfaces and experiences
  • Experience with mobile applications on iOS and Android, using React Native, Flutter or native technologies
  • The ability to think about the product and user need, rather than working only from individual tickets
  • Confidence working independently and taking ownership
  • Comfort operating in an evolving environment where not every answer is known from the outset
  • An honest, curious approach and the ability to learn quickly

You do not need to know everything. We are looking for someone with strong foundations, sound judgement and the motivation to help shape products with real purpose.

What We Offer

  • A permanent role starting at 0.6 FTE — three days per week
  • A clear potential route towards full-time work as the products grow
  • Flexible, remote-first working
  • Occasional in-person collaboration days in the Midlands
  • Public-sector pension and holiday entitlement
  • A continuing professional development budget
  • Genuine encouragement to develop your skills
  • Significant ownership of two live and growing products
  • The opportunity to influence both technical and product direction
