ABOUT WORLDMODELDATA
Worldmodeldata is building critical data infrastructure for the next generation of AI. We work with frontier AI labs and operate a platform that spans data collection, processing, and delivery at scale. Strategically advised by Prof. Yann LeCun. We are lean, well-funded, and operating at high speed.
THE ROLE
This role has two equally weighted jobs. The first is engineering: owning the contributor-facing web platform and implementing new features from design handoff to production alongside the Product Designer. The second is people: serving as the primary technical contact for our contributor community, getting users set up, and being first in the investigation chain when they hit problems.
Getting contributors unblocked requires more than frontend knowledge. Our contributors run a Windows desktop application built in Rust by our Systems Engineer — and when something goes wrong on their machine, you are the first engineer in the chain. You need to understand how that application works: how it installs, how it communicates with the backend, and what can fail at the OS level. You will not author the installer, but you must be able to open the codebase, read what it is doing, and arrive at a confident diagnosis before escalating.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
Contributor Platform Engineering
- Frontend of the contributor web platform — registration, onboarding flow, account dashboard, access management, and software download portal
- Admin panel for contributor approval, account management, and platform monitoring
- Feature development from design handoff to production, in close collaboration with the Product Designer
- Backend API integration — auth, token management, and contributor data flows

- Primary technical contact for contributors — onboarding users end-to-end from account setup to first successful data submission
- First-line investigation of desktop application issues — reading installer logs and source, reproducing problems, and escalating to the Systems Engineer with an evidence-based diagnosis
- Contributor documentation — troubleshooting guides, setup instructions, and FAQs that reduce inbound support volume
- Release communications and contributor health tracking — submission rates, drop-off points, support ticket patterns
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Web Engineering
- 4+ years of professional full-stack engineering experience; comfortable owning a feature end-to-end
- Strong React and TypeScript proficiency — able to build and maintain a production web application without close supervision
- Solid REST API integration, auth flows, and browser security fundamentals; strong backend literacy to read and modify the services you integrate with
- CSS and component implementation to production standard; you can take a Figma file and build it accurately
Systems & Desktop Application Literacy
- Comfortable reading Rust and C++ source code — you do not need to write production systems code, but you must be able to follow it: understand control flow, locate where errors surface, and navigate an unfamiliar codebase confidently
- Solid understanding of how Windows desktop applications install and run — the Windows process model, file system permissions, user vs. system install contexts, and common OS-level failure modes
- Able to work with application logs, crash reports, and diagnostic output to form a hypothesis before involving the Systems Engineer; comfortable with Windows diagnostic tools such as Event Viewer and Process Monitor
- Understanding of how a desktop client communicates with a backend API — authentication, network error handling, retry logic, and how to distinguish local from remote failures

Support & Communication
- Experience supporting non-technical or semi-technical users — you adjust your communication register to match the person you are helping
- Systematic debugging of user-reported issues: you reproduce methodically, gather the right information, and write a diagnosis an engineer can act on
- Strong written communication — documentation that is maintained and useful, not written once and forgotten
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- You genuinely enjoy helping people get unblocked — a contributor who can't get set up is a problem you want to solve, not a distraction from engineering
- When a contributor reports an issue, your instinct is to open the code, not just the ticket — you want to know what actually happened
- You are as rigorous with a support investigation as you are with a code review — you don't guess, you reproduce
- You thrive in fast-moving environments and understand that contributor retention is a product metric, not a soft one
NICE TO HAVE
- Prior experience writing Rust or C++ — reading fluency is required; authorship is a meaningful bonus
- Exposure to Windows application packaging — MSI, NSIS, WiX, or similar installer toolchains
- Experience working on or alongside a native desktop application that communicates with a cloud backend
- Familiarity with support tooling (Linear, Intercom, or similar) and building workflows that scale support without adding headcount
- Exposure to community management or developer relations in a technical product context
