Interim Senior Fullstack Engineer (Lead) | Global EdTech Business
📍 London (hybrid, ~3 days on-site, West London) | 6-month contract with a genuine path to permanent | Reporting into the Director of Engineering & Technology
About the opportunity
A large, global EdTech business (25+ years in the space, operating internationally) is bringing in a senior fullstack engineer to steady and modernise the platform behind its e-commerce and learning products.
The honest version: there's a small, capable team of largely junior engineers shipping fast, a mix of legacy code and modern AWS deployments, and nobody senior with the bandwidth to own architecture. This role exists to fix that - to bring structure, take things past MVP, and be the person the team can bring problems to.
It's starting as an interim engagement so both sides can move quickly, with a clear intent to convert to permanent for the right person.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What you'll actually be doing
- Acting as the senior technical voice across the stack - architecture decisions, code review, and untangling the things that keep breaking
- Hardening a complex back end: multiple generations of e-commerce and payment integrations (Adyen plus regional providers), Salesforce orchestration, and a layered Cloudflare/AWS setup
- Bringing engineering discipline to testing - QA is currently manual and a bottleneck, so you'll help shift towards automated and integrated testing
- Mentoring and unblocking junior developers day to day, raising the bar on how the team builds
- Working alongside Product and commercial stakeholders to sequence stability work against a busy roadmap, including AI-powered e-commerce projects
What we're looking for
- Senior fullstack engineer with genuine backend and DevOps depth - comfortable in AWS, CI/CD, and infrastructure, not just application code
- Experience inheriting legacy systems and improving them incrementally, without a two-year rewrite
- Track record of being the technical anchor for a junior team: reviewing, mentoring, setting standards
- Pragmatic about testing and reliability, and able to introduce automation where it earns its keep
- Comfortable with a flat, informal, low-ego, highly international culture; confidence without ego is a hard requirement
- London-based

Why this role
You'd be the first senior engineer to properly own the technical foundations here, with a clear mandate from the top to stabilise and modernise rather than just keep shipping. Real autonomy, visible impact, and a permanent seat on the table if it's a fit both ways.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
