Senior Full-Stack Engineer – UK Defence Programme
Bath | Hybrid – typically 3 days onsite
Permanent
UK National / SC Clearance Eligible
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Full-Stack Engineer to join a major, multi-year technology transformation programme within UK defence.
This is a hands-on engineering role with genuine ownership. You’ll be building and evolving a complex software platform while integrating it with a growing ecosystem of systems including data lakehouse technology, ERP platforms, optimisation engines and external partner platforms.
A lot of the technical landscape is still being designed, so we’re looking for someone comfortable taking loosely defined requirements, shaping the solution with the wider team and delivering it end-to-end.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Build full-stack features across user-facing applications, backend services, APIs and data.
- Design and develop integrations with ERP systems, data platforms and external technologies.
- Work primarily with Java, SQL, TypeScript and Angular.
- Design REST and event-driven APIs and integrations.
- Introduce event-driven and Change Data Capture (CDC) patterns where appropriate.
- Work with data warehouse/lakehouse environments and near-real-time data flows.
- Make architectural and technical decisions around scalability, security, performance and maintainability.
- Improve engineering standards across automated testing, CI/CD and observability.
- Take substantial pieces of work from initial design through to production.
- Mentor other engineers and help develop engineering best practices.
- Work directly with engineers, project managers, designers and senior customer stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For
You’ll ideally be an experienced Senior Full-Stack Engineer who enjoys remaining hands-on while taking ownership of technically complex projects.
Key experience:
- Strong Java development experience
- Angular / TypeScript
- SQL
- REST APIs and backend services
- Systems integration
- Event-driven architecture
- Data warehouse/lakehouse integration
- CI/CD and automated testing
- Observability and production monitoring
- Strong system and data design knowledge
- Experience integrating third-party platforms or ERP systems
Experience with streaming technologies, Change Data Capture (CDC) or complex data integrations would be particularly useful.
We’re also looking for someone comfortable working with ambiguity. You should be able to understand the underlying problem, make pragmatic technical decisions and take responsibility for delivering the solution rather than relying on a fully defined specification.
Defence & Security Requirements
Due to the nature of the programme, candidates must be UK nationals and eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
Existing active SC clearance would be advantageous but is not essential for candidates who meet the eligibility requirements and are willing to undergo the clearance process.

Previous experience within defence, central government, public safety or another regulated environment would also be beneficial.
Location
Bath-based with hybrid working, typically around three days per week onsite at either the company office or customer locations.

Interview Process
The process is expected to include:
- Initial behavioural/hiring manager interview
- Hands-on programming session
- Product-focused system design discussion
Java is the primary backend technology, although another mainstream programming language may be considered for the technical exercise.
