About the Job
Champion Data has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dedicated Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our team!
The Senior Full-Stack Engineer is a hands-on senior individual contributor within Champion Data's Technology function, delivering reliable, secure and maintainable software through AI-native engineering. The role has a front-end focus, building polished, high-performing user interfaces for Champion Data's sports data products, supported by solid capability across back-end services and cloud infrastructure.
AI-first engineering is a working expectation, not an optional skill. The Full-Stack Engineer uses AI coding agents as a core part of how they design, build, test, review and improve production software, while applying the technical judgement to frame problems, guide implementation, challenge outputs and validate results. They understand, explain and own everything they deliver, and work directly in the code whenever that is the most effective approach.
The Full-Stack Engineer is accountable for:
- Owning substantial engineering outcomes end to end, from requirements and solution design through implementation, release verification and ongoing improvement.
- Delivering high-quality, accessible and performant front-end experiences using TypeScript, React and Next.js.
- Contributing to back-end services, APIs and integrations as required to deliver complete features.
- Applying AI-native engineering practices with rigour, while retaining personal accountability for correctness, security and quality.
- Improving the documentation, reusable instructions and workflows that help both engineers and agents work effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Front-End Engineering
- Design, build and maintain responsive, accessible interfaces using TypeScript, React and Next.js, with maintainable component design and application structure.
- Apply a sound understanding of server-side and client-side execution, rendering approaches, routing, data fetching and caching.
- Deliver clear loading, empty and error states and reliable API integration.
- Deploy and operate Next.js applications on Vercel, including preview deployments, environment configuration and production troubleshooting.
- Optimise web performance and handle authentication flows and application data securely.
- Collaborate with product and design colleagues to deliver polished, usable interfaces for live and data-intensive sports products.
Back-End & Full-Stack Delivery
- Contribute to APIs and services built with C# and modern.NET, working across the stack to deliver complete features.
- Build, deploy and support back-end components on AWS, applying sound data modelling and database practices.
- Design clear interfaces between front-end and back-end components that fit the existing architecture and engineering standards.
- Diagnose issues across application, API, database and cloud boundaries.
AI-Native Engineering
- Use AI coding agents routinely for meaningful engineering work, including implementation, refactoring, tests, debugging and documentation.
- Turn requirements into clear goals, constraints, acceptance criteria and useful repository context so agents can work effectively.
- Plan and supervise agent work in manageable changes; inspect diffs, challenge assumptions and correct poor design or unnecessary complexity.
- Validate generated code through automated tests, code review and meaningful checks of real behaviour, assessing security, performance, reliability and maintainability before release.
- Independently reason about unfamiliar code and explain the design, trade-offs and behaviour of delivered changes without relying on an agent's explanation.
- Use approved tools and follow company controls for source code, credentials, customer data and other confidential information.
- Measure success through improved delivery outcomes rather than the volume of generated code.

Delivery & Quality
- Own complex features and components end to end, clarifying ambiguity early and delivering against agreed acceptance criteria.
- Develop appropriate tests, maintain CI/CD workflows and verify that released changes behave correctly in their target environment.
- Investigate production issues, identify root causes and improve observability, resilience and performance.
- Maintain documentation and operational guidance so that both engineers and agents can work effectively in the codebase.
Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
- Communicate progress, risks, blockers and technical decisions clearly, and escalate issues early.
- Work effectively with product, delivery and engineering colleagues across a distributed team, including timely communication and effective handovers.
- Contribute useful code reviews, share knowledge and support other engineers through practical guidance.
- Improve reusable agent instructions, engineering documentation and team workflows.
About You
- Demonstrated senior-level delivery of production software, with independent ownership of complex work and sound judgement about design, risk and trade-offs.
- Established AI-native engineering background, with hands-on use of AI coding agents in professional software delivery, supported by concrete examples of work shipped and how it was validated.
- Strong front-end background, with extensive production experience in TypeScript, React and Next.js.
- Experience working in sport, such as sports data, sports technology, live systems or data-intensive sports products.
- Practical experience deploying and operating Next.js applications on Vercel.
- Experience with front-end testing, browser debugging, web performance, accessibility and authentication flows.
- Working back-end capability, ideally with C#, modern.NET and AWS, including APIs, data modelling and databases.
- Understanding of asynchronous processing, integrations, messaging and distributed-system failure modes is desirable.
- Experience with secure coding, automated testing, CI/CD, logging and monitoring.
- Strong engineering fundamentals: readable code, appropriate abstractions, version control, testing, security, debugging and maintainability.
- Ability to work effectively in existing codebases, learn unfamiliar systems and improve them without unnecessary rewrites.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clarify requirements, explain trade-offs and write clear documentation and progress updates.
- Reliable collaboration within a distributed team.
- Genuine interest in sport and the use of data to improve it.
