About the Company
Our client is a well-funded, senior-only San Francisco team led by founders with successful exits. The company is building next-generation consumer finance infrastructure for emerging markets, combining virtual banking, stablecoin and cryptocurrency wallet capabilities, and cross-border money movement in one secure platform.
The mission is to make global financial services faster, more accessible, and more reliable for people who are underserved by traditional banking systems. This is an early-stage environment where engineers can have immediate impact and help shape the product and technical direction from the ground up.
The Role
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an engineering generalist who can work across backend, web, mobile, infrastructure, security, and architecture. You will work directly with the founders, make key architecture decisions, set engineering standards, mentor engineers, and lead delivery of a secure, reliable product handling real-money movement at international scale.
What You Will Do
- Define and evolve system architecture across backend, web, mobile, infrastructure, security, and data.
- Build and ship a high-quality consumer financial product from the ground up.
- Make technical trade-offs around scalability, latency, reliability, compliance, data integrity, and security.
- Set engineering standards for architecture, code quality, testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and production reliability.
- Mentor engineers, review technical decisions, and help grow a high-performing engineering team.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Operations, and the founders to translate product goals into technical execution.
- Own outcomes across multiple layers of the stack rather than operating as a narrow frontend or backend specialist.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What Success Looks Like
- You think like a builder and product owner, not just a feature implementer.
- You can see the whole system, explain trade-offs clearly, and make decisions without constant direction.
- You are comfortable leading technically while remaining close to implementation and code quality.
- You thrive in a fast-moving startup environment with high ownership and direct founder interaction.
What We Are Looking For
- 7–10 years of experience building and shipping consumer-facing mobile and/or web products.
- Meaningful full-stack breadth, with strong backend foundations and enough frontend/mobile knowledge to lead cross-platform discussions.
- Strong system design and architecture experience across APIs, distributed systems, databases, scalability, and reliability.
- Hands-on technical leadership experience: architecture reviews, technical decision-making, mentoring, code reviews, and engineering standards.
- Strong PostgreSQL fundamentals, including data modeling, transaction handling, query optimization, and scale.
- Experience with AWS and modern cloud engineering practices such as containers, CI/CD, monitoring, deployment pipelines, and security.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with founders, engineers, and product teams.
