Global e-invoicing and Continuous Transaction Control (CTC) regulations are evolving rapidly, requiring organizations to adapt business processes and technology at an unprecedented pace. As Avalara expands its E-Invoicing and Live Reporting (ELR) capabilities, we need experienced functional consultants who can translate complex regulatory requirements into scalable implementation designs that accelerate customer adoption and ensure compliance.
The Senior Functional Consultant serves as the critical bridge between regulatory mandates, business processes, and technical implementation teams. Working across Product, Engineering, Professional Services, ERP Connector teams, and strategic partners, this role transforms evolving global requirements into repeatable implementation patterns that improve delivery consistency, reduce deployment friction, and help customers achieve faster time-to-value.
How This Role Elevates Avalara
This role will:
- Accelerate customer adoption of Avalara’s ELR platform through consistent, high-quality solution design.
- Improve implementation quality by translating evolving global mandates into standardized, reusable implementation patterns.
- Reduce deployment friction and implementation risk across customers, partners, and ERP ecosystems.
- Increase scalability by reducing dependency on individual subject matter experts through documentation, frameworks, and repeatable assets.
- Strengthen collaboration across Product, Engineering, Professional Services, and strategic partners to improve customer outcomes.
- Support Avalara’s AI-first strategy by incorporating AI into functional analysis, documentation, and implementation processes where appropriate.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be
The successful candidate will:
- Partner with regulatory SMEs to understand new and evolving global e-invoicing and CTC requirements.
- Translate complex regulatory mandates into structured business requirements, functional designs, implementation guidance, and reusable solution patterns.
- Analyze customer Procure-to-Pay (P2P) and Order-to-Cash (O2C) business processes and map them to Avalara’s ELR platform capabilities.
- Guide implementation teams, integration teams, and partners through mandate-specific solution design and implementation decisions.
- Support customer onboarding, solution design workshops, and implementation activities to improve deployment quality and customer outcomes.
- Identify implementation risks, dependencies, and gaps while driving cross-functional resolution.
- Serve as the primary functional liaison between regulatory experts, Product Management, Engineering, ERP Connector teams, Professional Services, and external partners.
- Develop implementation documentation, training materials, and partner enablement resources that improve consistency and scalability.
- Monitor global regulatory changes and assess their impact on existing solution designs and implementation approaches.
- Continuously improve methodologies, frameworks, reusable assets, and implementation standards across the ELR ecosystem.
12-Month Success Signals
Within the first 12 months, this consultant will:
- Deliver functional designs that improve implementation consistency across multiple global mandates.
- Reduce onboarding and implementation friction through reusable documentation, standardized patterns, and improved solution guidance.
- Increase connector and partner readiness for new regulatory requirements.
- Improve customer deployment success rates and accelerate time-to-value.
- Reduce dependency on regulatory SMEs by developing scalable implementation assets.
- Strengthen cross-functional collaboration across Product, Engineering, Professional Services, and partner organizations.
- Contribute AI-enabled approaches that improve documentation quality, analysis, or implementation efficiency.

As an AI Bar Raiser, this role will help advance how functional consulting leverages AI to accelerate analysis, improve implementation quality, and scale knowledge across the organization.
The successful candidate will:
- Use approved AI tools to accelerate requirements analysis, documentation development, solution design, and knowledge management.
- Identify opportunities where AI can improve implementation efficiency, customer readiness, or internal productivity.
- Apply AI responsibly while validating outputs against regulatory requirements and business needs.
- Demonstrate measurable improvements in implementation quality, delivery speed, or documentation effectiveness through AI-enabled approaches.
- Share AI best practices and reusable approaches that improve team capability.

- Exercise sound judgment when balancing customer needs, regulatory requirements, and scalable solution design.
- Leave implementation frameworks, documentation, and cross-functional processes stronger than they found them.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline and 7+ years of experience in ERP consulting, solution architecture, business analysis, product ownership, or enterprise software implementation.
- Strong understanding of Procure-to-Pay (P2P) and Order-to-Cash (O2C) business processes.
- Experience with invoice lifecycle management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement, and financial operations.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical designs and implementation guidance.
- Experience with ERP platforms including SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, NetSuite, Workday, Infor, or similar enterprise systems.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting global e-invoicing, indirect tax compliance, CTC frameworks, PEPPOL, or digital reporting mandates.
- Product ownership or product management experience.
- Experience designing enterprise integrations, APIs, or solution architectures.
- Familiarity with SaaS implementation methodologies and partner ecosystems.
- Experience working with system integrators, ISVs, or strategic technology partners.
- Knowledge of B2B transaction processing and electronic document exchange.
