International Alert Fundraiser
International Alert seeks an experienced and well-networked fundraiser with the confidence and drive to build financial support for our next steps as an organisation, at a crucial time for peacebuilding.
The consultant will provide strategic fundraising advice and hands-on business development support to help Alert maximize philanthropic opportunities, including those arising from a proposed merger process.

Essential
- A track record of success leading the development of funding pipelines among a mainly non-government set of donors, working directly with top organizational management.
- Strong knowledge of and networks in the UK philanthropic sectors likely to be most relevant to the requirements set out above.
- A high level of familiarity with an international NGO environment, e.g. humanitarian, development, peacebuilding, preferably including direct experience of working in such an organization.
- Strong relationship-building skills, able to lead meetings with prospective donors as well as accompany and brief the ED to do so.
- The ability to tell a clear, compelling, and tailored story of impact to donors, drawing on a range of organizational materials.
- Strong collaboration skills, both inside and outside the organization.
- High levels of discretion and ability to manage confidential information.
- Working regularly in Central London – at least two-thirds of the time in Alert’s Vauxhall office, probably in a Tuesday-Thursday pattern, as well as regular in-person meetings in and around London. Flexibility to travel as required around the UK or Europe (expenses will be covered for such travel in line with Alert’s expense policy).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
