Crafty Apes® is a full-service visual effects and post-production company founded in Los Angeles, with studios in Atlanta, New York/New Jersey, London, Montreal, Vancouver, and Australia. Established in 2011 by industry veterans Chris LeDoux, Tim LeDoux, and Jason Sanford, the company now employs over 500 artists and production professionals.
Crafty Apes delivers a full suite of VFX and post-production services, including on-set supervision, VFX consultation, high-end CG, and previsualization. Its capabilities span 2D and 3D CGI, digital asset creation, mocap, rotoscoping, modeling and texturing, rigging, compositing, digital matte painting, animation, lighting, FX and CFX, and advanced machine learning and AI tools for VFX workflows.
The studio’s work appears in major feature films and acclaimed series such as The Creator, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Witcher, One Battle after Another, Black Bag, Foundation, Stranger Things, and The Last of Us.

The Senior FX Artist will design, create, and refine high-quality visual effects for film and episodic projects, collaborating with supervisors and other artists to ensure creative and technical consistency.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Developing complex FX simulations
- Integrating FX elements into shots
- Optimizing assets and workflows
- Troubleshooting technical issues while maintaining production deadlines
- Working closely with lighting, compositing, and CG teams to achieve cohesive, photorealistic results
- Contributing to best practices and pipeline improvements
This is a contract position. It is a hybrid role based in the London Area, United Kingdom, with a mix of in-studio collaboration and some work-from-home flexibility.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Houdini for FX creation, simulation, and integration into production pipelines
- Strong skills in lighting to support realistic FX rendering and seamless integration into live-action and CG environments
- Experience in compositing to combine FX, CG, and live-action elements into final shots with precise color and detail matching
- Knowledge of animation principles to drive natural movement in FX elements and support character and environment interactions
- Background in game development or real-time workflows is beneficial, particularly for optimizing FX assets and simulations
- Extensive experience in VFX production, preferably in feature film or high-end episodic projects, with a strong portfolio or showreel
- Familiarity with additional FX tools (e.g., Houdini, Nuke, Vray/other renderers) and modern VFX pipelines
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, manage time effectively, and adapt to evolving creative and technical requirements
- Relevant education or training in VFX, animation
