Hangar 13 / 2K is recruiting for the role of Senior Gameplay and Animation Engineer. The role involves setting a high bar for code quality and developing key gameplay and animation systems. It also includes working with Unreal Engine 5 and collaborating with animators, character artists, designers, and programmers.

What you’ll do

  • Adapt existing systems and build new technology to meet the project’s technical needs and creative goals.
  • Prototype and code gameplay and animation features.
  • Work constructively with design, animation, and engineering teams to realise creative ambitions.
  • Support planning by estimating development and checking dependencies for gameplay features.
  • Identify technical and developmental risks or obstacles and help solve them.
  • Research coding techniques and algorithms to stay current with developments in the game industry.

What they’re looking for

  • Demonstrable programming experience in a creative environment is needed.
  • Experience of shipping one or more AAA game titles is required, ideally using Unreal Engine.
  • Advanced C++ and strong linear algebra, 3D maths, and object-oriented design skills are required.
  • Experience with GAS, Unreal Engine, Blueprints, and Unreal Animation Principles is needed.
  • You need dedication to code quality and documentation, and the ability to learn and master new technologies quickly.
  • You must work independently and efficiently under deadlines.
  • You should be an effective communicator and collaborator with multi-disciplinary team members.

Additional role information

  • Hands-on experience developing for Unreal Engine and Xbox Series X/S and PS5 is highly desirable.
  • Experience with player controlled characters, Unreal enhanced inputs, cameras and camera systems is highly desirable.
  • The role may involve inverse kinematics, ragdoll and physics-based character animation, procedural animation, keyframe animation and forward kinematics, or machine learning driven animation techniques.
