The Opportunity

Contaminated land and groundwater management sit at the intersection of environmental responsibility and technical complexity. Getting it right matters, not just for regulatory compliance, but for the communities, ecosystems and businesses that depend on clean, safe ground and water environments.

At Stantec, our Energy and Resources Group is growing, and we are looking for a Senior Geoenvironmental Consultant to play a key role in that growth. If you have built solid experience in groundwater and contaminated land consultancy and you are ready for a role where your expertise shapes major projects and develops the people around you, this could be exactly the right next step.

About The Role

Based in Warrington, Manchester or Shrewsbury, you will join a strong, collaborative team delivering high-quality geoenvironmental services across contaminated land, groundwater and hydrogeology projects.

Your work will span the full project lifecycle: scoping and managing field investigations, groundwater sampling and aquifer testing, data interpretation, risk assessment and technical reporting. You will communicate findings clearly to clients and stakeholders, mentor junior staff and contribute to business development as the team continues to expand.

This is a role with real variety. Projects across the Energy and Resources sector bring different challenges, different site conditions and different client needs, and the breadth of that portfolio is something the team genuinely values. A full clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel to UK offices and project sites are required.

Your Impact

The assessments you lead and the reports you produce will directly inform how contaminated sites are managed, remediated and ultimately returned to productive use. Your technical judgement will help clients navigate complex ground and groundwater challenges with confidence, and your recommendations will leave sites and the environments around them in a genuinely better condition.

The junior colleagues you mentor will carry the skills and standards you help build throughout their careers. At the senior level, that influence is one of the most rewarding parts of the role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
