The Opportunity

Some of the most rewarding work in geoenvironmental consultancy happens on site, where plans meet reality, and the ability to manage complexity, people and competing priorities under pressure makes all the difference. At Stantec, we are looking for a Senior Geoenvironmental Consultant who thrives in that environment and brings the experience to lead it well.

This is a distinctive role, combining senior site delivery responsibilities on a major linear infrastructure development in Suffolk with broader geoenvironmental consultancy work from our London or Cambridge office. If you are a practical, organised and technically grounded consultant who is looking for something a little different from the standard desk-based role, this could be exactly the right fit.

About The Role

You will provide day-to-day site management and coordination for ground investigation works associated with a major linear infrastructure project in Suffolk, working on a rotation of three weeks on site, followed by three or six weeks off-site, depending on project requirements.

On site, you will:

  • Organise and coordinate investigation works
  • Manage contractors and subcontractors
  • Maintain programme and quality oversight
  • Act in a Principal Contractor capacity for defined work packages
  • Uphold rigorous HSSE standards
  • Maintain accurate site documentation including diaries, progress records, photographic records and quality registers
  • Escalate technical, programme or safety matters appropriately
  • Manage interfaces between different work packages
  • Keep a clear focus on delivering the work safely, efficiently and to the required standard

During your off-site periods, you will work from the London or Cambridge office under a hybrid arrangement, contributing to:

  • Proposals
  • Workplans
  • Data interpretation
  • Technical reporting across the wider ground engineering and Energy and Resources workload

Requirements

  • A full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to work extended periods at the Suffolk project site are essential.
  • An SMSTS qualification is preferred.
  • Additional training such as First Aid at Work, Temporary Works Coordinator, CAT and Genny, Confined Spaces, or Environmental Incident Response would be a welcome addition.

Your Impact

The site management you provide on this project will be central to its safe, efficient and high-quality delivery. A major linear infrastructure development of this scale depends on the kind of experienced, organised oversight that keeps contractors aligned, documentation robust and progress on track. That is the value you bring, and it is felt every day of the work.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

When you are off-site, your contribution to the broader Energy and Resources team will keep the consultancy work moving, adding depth and experience to a collaborative team that values what a senior site-facing professional brings to office-based delivery, too.

About You

You hold a degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Geoenvironmental Engineering, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering or a related discipline. You bring relevant experience in geoenvironmental consultancy, ground investigation, contaminated land, engineering geology or ground engineering, with a strong track record of arranging, planning and coordinating siteworks, including mobilisation, logistics, contractor interfaces and site documentation.

You are confident managing contractors and subcontractors, monitoring their performance against agreed scope, programme, quality and HSSE requirements, and undertaking Principal Contractor duties for defined work packages. You have a sound understanding of safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements, permits and incident reporting, and you maintain the kind of accurate, thorough site records that demonstrate effective management of complex works.

You communicate clearly and confidently with clients, contractors, landowners and multidisciplinary project teams, and you bring the practical judgement and organisational discipline that senior site management demands. Chartered status or active progress towards it with a recognised professional body would be a welcome addition.
