We provide a comprehensive range of ground investigation, contamination surveys and geotechnical services to a large and diverse client base spanning construction, infrastructure and environmental sectors.

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Geological Engineer / Senior Engineering Geologist to join our team in the Midlands.
The ideal candidate will have around 5-6 years' experience within ground investigation and engineering geology and be working towards, or have already achieved, chartership. This role offers a mixture of site and office-based work, supporting the delivery of ground investigation and consultancy projects across a wide range of geological settings and ground-related challenges.
You will play an important role within our experienced geological team, taking responsibility for technical reporting, project delivery and the development of junior staff. Depending on your experience, you will also have responsibility for managing and mentoring a small team of engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Technical
- Examine and review geological logging, field testing and field mapping records
- Plan and oversee ground investigations, including drilling programmes and sample analysis
- Supervise site investigations and ground investigation works
- Visit new project sites and provide technical input into project planning
- Provide advice on geological and ground-related issues, including subsidence, mining legacy and contamination
- Produce and review high-quality geological logs, records and interpretative reports
- Make recommendations regarding site development and ground conditions

Project and Commercial Management
- Manage projects and support successful delivery for clients
- Provide quotations and technical proposals
- Manage and support engineering geologists, geotechnical engineers, consultants and contractors
- Build and maintain positive client relationships
- Represent GIP at professional conferences and industry events
Health, Safety and Compliance
- Promote Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) standards across all projects
- Ensure works are completed in accordance with company procedures and industry best practice
- Lead by example and promote safe working behaviours across the team
Team Development
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior geologists and reporting staff
- Support training and professional development across the team
- Assist with the management and development of less experienced colleagues
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, Geoscience or a related discipline
- Minimum 5-6 years' experience within ground investigation, engineering geology or a related field
- Strong experience in geological logging, ground investigation and technical reporting
- Good project management skills
- Experience using geotechnical software such as OpenGround and HoleBASE
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Full UK driving licence (manual transmission)
- Ability to mentor and support junior staff
