We are looking for an experienced GIS / Geospatial Specialist to join our CAD/GIS team, supporting offshore survey projects from tender and planning stages through to data processing and final client deliverables.

This is a varied technical role combining GIS production, geospatial data management, automation and technical support. The successful candidate will work closely with our CAD/GIS, Data Processing, Tender and Project teams, providing day-to-day GIS support while also helping to develop, maintain and improve efficient and repeatable geospatial workflows.

The role would suit someone with strong practical GIS skills who is equally comfortable producing project deliverables, working with complex spatial datasets and developing or adapting technical solutions using ArcGIS Pro, Python, FME, an open-source tools.

What you will do

  • Support the Tender Team with mapping, GIS analysis, data preparation, route and corridor information, survey planning and other geospatial requirements.
  • Create and maintain survey line plans and associated route and corridor information.
  • Produce high-quality Alignment Charts and North-Up Charts in ArcGIS Pro.
  • Prepare, validate and deliver SSDM datasets and equivalent GIS/database deliverables using client-specific schemas and data models.
  • Provide ad hoc GIS support across offshore survey projects, working with CAD/GIS, Data Processing, Project and other teams.
  • Develop, maintain and improve Python scripts, tools and packages for GIS and data-processing automation, including troubleshooting and modifying existing code.
  • Develop, maintain and troubleshoot FME workflows for data transformation, validation and automated processing.
  • Support the administration and day-to-day operation of FME Flow, including published workspaces and automations.
  • Support Data Processing and other users with FME, helping them troubleshoot and adapt workspaces to project requirements.
  • Undertake GIS QA/QC and ensure deliverables meet project specifications, client requirements and internal standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, standardisation and data quality across CAD/GIS and data-processing workflows.
  • Contribute to the development of CAD/GIS procedures, templates, tools and standardised workflows.

The successful candidate will have strong practical experience in:

  • ArcGIS Pro, including geoprocessing, data management and professional cartographic production.
  • Producing Alignment Charts and North-Up Charts in ArcGIS Pro, ideally for offshore survey, cable, pipeline or other linear projects.
  • Producing SSDM deliverables, or equivalent structured geospatial/database deliverables.
  • Spatial databases and geodatabases, including working with defined schemas and client-specific data models.
  • Python for geospatial and data-processing applications, including developing, debugging and maintaining reusable scripts, tools and packages.
  • GDAL, including command-line utilities and/or Python integration for geospatial data conversion, processing and automation.
  • FME Form / FME Workbench, including creating, modifying and troubleshooting workspaces.
  • FME Flow, including supporting deployed workspaces and automated workflows.
  • Supporting other FME users and adapting existing workspaces to changing project requirements.
  • Coordinate reference systems, reprojection and coordinate transformations.
  • Spatial data manipulation, conversion, validation and QA/QC.
  • Handling and integrating a range of spatial and non-spatial data formats.
  • Working accurately and efficiently with large and complex geospatial datasets.
  • Working independently while also supporting colleagues with different levels of GIS and FME experience.

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous but is not essential:

  • Producing Alignment Charts and/or North-Up Charts in CAD using AutoChart, or similar automated CAD charting workflows.
  • AutoCAD and CAD/GIS interoperability, including DWG and DXF workflows.
  • Experience with open-source GIS software such as QGIS, including data processing, analysis and cartographic production.
  • Processing and optimising large raster datasets, including reprojection, mosaicking, tiling, clipping, resampling, compression and format conversion.
  • Working with large imagery, bathymetric, DEM/DTM or other survey-derived raster datasets.
  • Offshore geophysical, hydrographic, UXO, environmental, cable or pipeline survey projects.
  • SQL and relational or spatial databases.
  • Advanced FME Flow administration, including automations, scheduling, troubleshooting and optimisation.
  • Experience publishing, managing and consuming geospatial web services, using ArcGIS Enterprise or open-source equivalents such as GeoServer, MapServer or QGIS Server, including familiarity with REST-based services and OGC standards such as WMS, WFS and WMTS.
