About the BMA

The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK. We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.

Join the BMA at a crucial time for doctors and the NHS and be part of a team working for better pay and conditions for the profession.

About the Role

The BMA is looking to recruit a Senior Governance Officer to join the Council Secretariat team. This is an important role supporting the effective operation of the BMA’s corporate governance committees and helping ensure that committee business is well planned, well governed and aligned with the association’s Articles, By-laws, standing orders and strategic priorities.

Working closely with committee chairs, members, senior staff and colleagues across the organisation, you will provide high-quality secretariat and governance support to key committees, including the audit and risk committee, finance committee and remuneration committee. You will help ensure meetings run smoothly, decisions are clearly recorded and followed up, and effective information flows are maintained between committees, Council and the Board of Directors.

As a Senior Governance Officer, you will:

  • Provide high-quality secretariat support to key governance committees, including preparing agendas, drafting minutes, producing reports and chair briefings, and supporting the smooth running of meetings
  • Support committees to operate within the BMA’s governance framework, including its Articles, By-laws, standing orders and agreed workplans
  • Manage committee action logs, follow up decisions and work with colleagues across the BMA to ensure agreed actions are progressed
  • Contribute to policy and governance development, including researching issues, analysing proposals, preparing recommendations and developing supporting materials
  • Coordinate recruitment, induction and onboarding arrangements for committee lay members, and help maintain strong relationships with committee members and key stakeholders
  • Liaise confidently with colleagues across the organisation, including senior managers, chief officers, finance colleagues and staff supporting other committees

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
