Job Summary

The role is for a senior engineer with a strong background in computer graphics and GPU graphics algorithms to research, design and optimize core algorithms for next-generation graphics rendering pipelines.

The successful candidate will conduct innovative research into advanced graphics technologies, including Ray Tracing, Path Tracing, Physically Based Rendering and screen-space effects. The candidate will also contribute deeply to the performance optimization and stability of core rendering modules, including geometry processing, shader compilation, texture management and GPU scheduling. The role will drive the integration of graphics theory and engineering practice, enabling the transition from visual realism to perceptual realism.

The successful candidate will also continuously track emerging trends in graphics algorithms and contribute technical results through papers at leading conferences, industry white papers and technical blogs, strengthening the team’s technical influence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Graphics Algorithm Architecture Design and Innovation: Lead the research and system-level design of core algorithms for next-generation graphics rendering pipelines, covering Ray Tracing, Path Tracing, Physically Based Rendering (PBR), screen-space effects such as SSR and SSAO, DLSS/FSR and related technologies. Drive the deep integration of graphics theory and engineering practice, enabling the transition from visual realism to perceptual realism.
  • High-Performance GPU Graphics Algorithm Development and Optimization: Contribute deeply to the low-level architectural design of graphics algorithms and perform extreme optimization for the parallel computing characteristics of GPUs. Be responsible for the performance tuning and stability of core rendering modules, including geometry processing, shader compilation, texture management and GPU scheduling, significantly improving frame rates while reducing latency and power consumption.
  • Advanced Technology Research and Industry Impact: Continuously track emerging technology trends in graphics algorithms. Publish technical papers at leading conferences or provide in-depth insights through industry white papers and technical blogs, strengthening the team’s technical influence.

This job description is only an outline of the tasks, responsibilities and outcomes required of the role. The jobholder will carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required by his/her line manager. The job description and personal specification may be reviewed on an ongoing basis in accordance with the changing needs of Huawei Research and Development UK Limited.

Person Specification:

Required:

  • BSc, MSc or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Electronic Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of hands-on experience in computer graphics, GPU graphics algorithms, real-time rendering or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of modern rendering technologies and graphics pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience in designing, implementing and optimizing high-performance GPU graphics algorithms.
  • Knowledge of Ray Tracing, Path Tracing, PBR, screen-space effects, image reconstruction or related technologies.
  • Practical experience in one or more areas, including geometry processing, shader compilation, texture management and GPU scheduling.
  • Strong understanding of GPU parallel computing characteristics, graphics performance analysis and optimization.
  • Good programming, algorithm design and engineering implementation skills.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following technologies: Vulkan, OpenGL ES, Metal, DirectX 11/12 or OpenCL.
  • Self-motivated, well organized and a good team player.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.

Desired:

  • PhD in Computer Graphics, GPU Architecture or a related field.
  • Publications at leading conferences or journals in the field of computer graphics.
  • Experience in graphics algorithm architecture design and product implementation.
  • Experience in producing industry white papers, technical blogs, patents or other high-quality technical publications.
