Senior Head of Health and Safety
Location: London, Hybrid 2 days per week.
Salary: £90,000 - £110,000
We are seeking a Senior Head of Health and Safety to lead our SHEQ strategy across a high-volume, unionized transport network of ~5,000 employees.
Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Head of Health and Safety will serve as the principal advisor to the Board, shifting our operations from standard compliance to a modern safety science model (HOP, Safety II, and Restorative Just Culture).
Core Responsibilities
- Strategy & Governance: Own the SHEQ framework, maintain ISO certifications, ensure regulatory compliance, and advise Executive leadership on risk management.
- Safety Culture & Learning: Embed Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) principles, Restorative Just Culture, and Learning Teams to drive continuous improvement.
- Operations & Sustainability: Oversee audits, incident investigations, fleet decarbonization safety, and environmental initiatives (emissions, waste, pollution).
- Leadership & Stakeholders: Lead internal SHEQ teams and manage relationships with Trade Unions, regulators, and transport authorities.

- Qualifications:
- NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Recognized Environmental qualification.
- Experience:
- Executive-level leadership in safety-critical, complex operational or transport environments.
- Expertise:
- Deep knowledge of UK safety legislation, organizational culture change, and modern safety frameworks (HOP, Safety II).
