About This Opportunity

We are seeking several Senior level Health and Safety Consultants on a contractual basis. You will support our client on large scale construction sites, from project initiation to completion. We require individuals with a minimum 3 years post qualification experience on construction projects under CDM 2015, you must also have a recognised level 6 safety qualification (NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6 H&S etc).

We require individuals across multiple UK locations, including but not limited to London, Norwich, Nottingham, Birmingham, Newcastle, and Plymouth.

Please note - this is a full-time, on-site position.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting business unit directors in delivering business objectives;
  • Monitoring and working with the principal contractor appointed to complete the project;
  • Attending regular meetings with the principal contractor;
  • Providing support and assistance to the principal contractor and contractors on site;
  • Positively engaging with our client and developing, growing and maintaining our relationship;
  • Delivering a high-quality service which ensures that services meet our client’s requirements;
  • Managing the client’s health and safety obligations on the project to deliver a high-quality service;
  • Advising and assisting the client with their duties under the CDM regulations and other construction-related health and safety standards, regulations, and legislations;
  • Assisting with the coordination of health and safety aspects of design work;
  • Cooperating with others involved with the project;
  • Facilitating good communication between the client, designers, and contractors;
  • Liaising with the principal contractor regarding ongoing design work;
  • Producing and presenting regular reports to our main client – this will involve prompt flash reports of major issues as well as comprehensive weekly and monthly reports detailing all aspects of health and safety management on site;
  • Mentoring and coaching employees so that they realise their full potential;
  • Preparing bids for services;
  • Advising directors promptly of any issues that have arisen, or will arise, on projects; in particular those that might impact on Gleeds professional indemnity (PI) insurance;

Who we’re looking for:

The role will be permanently based on a large construction project, and the successful candidate must be someone who can work independently. The role will require both high-level monitoring of a principal contractor and the candidate must be able to act on behalf of the client whilst maintaining a collaborative and positive relationship with the contractor.

Experience, Knowledge, and Key Skills

  • Sound construction-related health and safety management experience post Cert IOSH qualification;
  • Experience of delivering services on a live construction site;
  • Cohesive knowledge of construction methods and materials;
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience of construction-related health and safety management;
  • Thorough understanding of health and safety legislation relating to construction;
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written;
  • Methodical way of thinking and approach to work;
  • Good problem-solving, negotiating skills, financial and numeracy management skills;
  • Ability to prepare first-class bids for services;
  • Competent ICT skills, with a high level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and lead teams.
