This position will be responsible for leading the Health and Safety element of Safe as part of our approach to Safe, Sustainable and Wellbeing. Main responsibilities will be providing health and safety leadership, advice and support to site and office locations creating an ethos of collaboration and shared purpose between the Safe, Sustainability, Wellbeing Function and other VVB employees and functions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on the rollout and embedding of the Health and Safety elements of the SSW Strategy at a project level
  • Day to day project lead for health and safety.
  • Promote VVB’s vision and values to internal and external stakeholders including our vision of Safe, Sustainability and Wellbeing
  • Ensure that our policies and procedures reflect health and safety legislation
  • Ensure health and safety processes and procedures which form part of the VVB H&S Management System are implemented on projects and in offices
  • Review, update and produce where required Health and Safety documentation for the VVB Management System
  • Provide support, guidance and advice to both office and site location on health and safety matters, in-line with our H&S Policies and Procedures
  • Work with the SSW team to deliver continuous improvement across the business and projects.
  • Ensure all accidents, incidents and near misses are correctly reported and support is provided to investigations in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all health and safety lessons learnt are communicated to the SSW Team and wider business
  • Ensure that all H&S reporting requirements are accurately provided to the Head of Operational Health & Safety
  • Conduct site safety inspections and audits, ensuring any action plans implemented have been communicated with the Project Manager/s and subsequently implemented on the project site
  • Conduct regular reviews on corrective actions arising from incidents, inspections and audits.
  • Support internal and external audits programmes
  • To provided technical assistance both to Project Managers and the Head of Operational Health and Safety
  • Conduct Toolbox Talks, brief safety alerts, assist in Client & Tier 1 briefings when called upon.
  • Provide coaching & instruction to employees and contractors with regards to health and safety
  • Conduct health and safety training as required
  • Attend and provide health and safety input at Business/ Project Meetings
  • Communicate to the Head of Operational Health and Safety on matters of health, safety and environment including updates on Notify (Reporting System)
  • Line Manager other H&S Advisors

  • Working and demonstratable understanding of health and safety legislation
  • Working and demonstratable understanding of electrical and mechanical standards
  • Working knowledge of ISO 45001
  • Sound Construction Industry Knowledge
  • Good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • NEBOSH Diploma/ NCRQ Diploma
  • Graduate Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
  • CSCS card
  • Full UK driver’s license
  • Previous experience as a Health and Safety Manager in a Tier 1 Organisation.
  • Previous experience within Rail, Power and Utilities and/or tunnelling sectors
  • Experience in carrying out accident and incident investigations
