The Role

To provide operational leadership, management and coordination of NHS Lanarkshire's specialist smoking cessation services (Quit Your Way) and associated tobacco control programmes ensuring the effective delivery of evidence-based health improvement programmes and services across Lanarkshire.

The post holder will lead the delivery, performance and continuous improvement of smoking cessation services and pathways, ensuring that evidence-based support is accessible to those most affected by tobacco-related harm and health inequalities. Particular focus will be given to priority populations, ensuring achievement of agreed Local Delivery Plan (LDP) smoking cessation targets and Tobacco and Vaping Programme outcomes. The post holder will be responsible for monitoring referrals, quit attempts and successful quit outcomes across all service settings, and quality assurance and performance management arrangements are in place to support delivery of smoking cessation targets.

Working as a key member of the Tobacco Vaping Alcohol and Cannabis leadership team, the post holder will influence policy implementation, oversee service delivery and contribute to strategic planning while ensuring services are delivered effectively, and efficiently.

The role will provide direct line management and professional leadership to health improvement staff and oversee the implementation and review of Tobacco and Vaping Programme Plans ensuring delivery is aligned with the Scottish Government Tobacco and Vaping Framework and national smoking cessation review recommendations. They will lead operational partnerships with maternity services, mental health services, acute services, primary care and Health and Social Care Partnerships to maximise referrals, quit attempts and successful quits.

In This Key Role, You Will

  • Lead the implementation and review of the Lanarkshire Tobacco and Vaping Programme Plan service delivery actions, with a particular focus on priority groups.
  • Ensure services are delivered consistently across all settings.
  • Provide leadership, supervision and line management to health improvement staff, ensuring effective workforce planning, professional development, and performance management.
  • Ensure smoking cessation support is delivered in accordance with national standards and evidence-based practice.
  • Interpret complex information and communicate it clearly to staff, partners, stakeholders, and the wider team.
  • Monitor and drive service performance through effective use of data, quality improvement methodologies and performance management systems, ensuring continuous improvement across all smoking cessation pathways.
  • Prepare and present high-quality reports, performance updates and recommendations for senior managers, governance groups and partner organisations, ensuring robust monitoring, evaluation and accountability arrangements are maintained.
  • Work with Microsoft Office, data management systems and clinical systems such as TrakCare, Badgernet, and SCI Gateway.

What You'll Bring

  • Knowledge of public health/Health Improvement field acquired through relevant degree, supplemented by specialist public health improvement knowledge, acquired through learning, extended courses and experience to Post Graduate /Masters level (SCQF level 11)
  • Highly developed knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of health improvement/public health
  • Extensive experience and a proven track record of working in Health Improvement/Public Health or other health inequalities related field
  • Demonstrated experience of strategic planning and partnership working across organisational boundaries to deliver health improvement outcomes
  • A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
