This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking and dynamic Health and Safety Team at Manchester Metropolitan University and play a key role in driving best practice and creating positive, lasting change.

About the Role

As a Senior Health and Safety Adviser, you will provide strong, visible and proactive health and safety leadership across a large and complex organisation. Working closely with senior leaders, Faculties and Professional Services, you will provide expert advice, influence decision-making and empower others to take ownership of health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, professional and proactive health and safety advice and leadership.
  • Influence and support senior managers to develop and implement robust health and safety plans that improve performance.
  • Contribute to senior leadership groups, ensuring health and safety is integrated into strategic decision-making.
  • Promote a positive safety culture by influencing behaviours, building capability and encouraging ownership.
  • Lead and support complex accident and incident investigations, identifying root causes and ensuring effective preventative actions are implemented.
  • Develop and review policies, procedures and guidance to support legal compliance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead on audits, inspections and health and safety performance monitoring.
  • Develop and deliver engaging health and safety training and communications.
  • Work collaboratively across the University and with external partners to share knowledge and drive best practice.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety practitioner with a proven track record of engaging and influencing senior management within a large, complex organisation.

You Will Be

  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) and hold a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
  • Progressive, forward-thinking and passionate about improving health and safety.
  • Highly engaging, with a compelling communication and presentation style.
  • Confident in managing complex health and safety issues and developing pragmatic, proportionate solutions.
  • Ambitious and results-driven, with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
  • Able to build credibility and trust quickly and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experienced in developing and delivering health and safety training, investigations, health surveillance programmes and audit activity.

This is an opportunity to do more than provide advice. You will help shape how health and safety is understood, led and embedded across the University.
