Senior Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor

Job Type: Permanent
Start date: ASAP
Rate: £60,000 - £65,000 per annum + Car Allowance + Benefits
Location: Swindon, Wiltshire
Hours of work: 37.5 Hours Per Week – Fully Site Based

The Role

Lead and be accountable for health, safety, and environmental (HSE) matters on client projects, ensuring all individuals receive appropriate leadership and support. Support the operational team in meeting HSE requirements during construction.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Establish and provide leadership in best practice in safety, health, and environmental matters
  • Advise and support Directors, Managers, and Supervisors to discharge their H&S and environmental responsibilities regarding their employees and others to whom they have a duty as defined by Legislation and Procedures
  • Liaise with Client on a regular basis, being able to establish positive relationships and trust
  • Lead on ad-hoc health, safety, and environmental projects i.e. Improvement Plans, Supervisor Development Programmes etc as required by the Project Director and the Client
  • Ensure management controls are in place so that all personnel are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities and to provide advice as and when required
  • If required, lead junior HSE Advisors ensuring support is provided as required
  • Manage & carry out surveillance/regular inspections/audits of sites and workplaces to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with client Policy, Procedures, and the relevant Statutory Provisions. Where appropriate, make recommendations for improvement.
  • Follow up on any required outcomes from inspections that have been carried out on client sites
  • Lead, partake, and oversee accident/incident investigations in accordance with client procedures, analysing all data and making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences
  • Assist the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Manager in the development, organisation, and delivery of the induction process
  • Manage and, where required, be involved in the preparation & review of documents including H&S and environmental plans and procedures, method statements, and those of 3rd parties
  • Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, client procedures, and Contract Requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Schedule of Partners KPIs
  • Stop work at any time H&S or environmental elements of the works are in question

Experience/Qualifications

  • All candidates will hold relevant qualifications such as NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH Senior Membership (CIOSH desirable), IEMA Membership, First Aid at Work, Fire Safety qualification
  • Candidates will have 5-10+ years HSE experience in construction
  • Candidates will have experience of Site inspections, audits, and surveillance.
  • Candidates will have Technical Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, CDM Regulations, Health, Safety & Environmental Legislation, and Commercial awareness NEC 3/4 Contracts
  • All candidates will hold relevant H&S Membership at Senior Level (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH, IEMA, CQI)
