About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, proactive Senior Health & Safety Manager to maintain our excellent H&S standards and continue driving improvement in H&S performance across multiple projects and Middlesex business divisions.
This is a highly visible, operational role rather than an office-based compliance position. The successful candidate will spend approximately 80–90% of their time on site, working directly with project teams to identify risks and ensure improvements are implemented and sustained. A key part of the role will also be supporting and developing junior members of the HSE team, helping to build their confidence, technical knowledge, and professional judgement.
This role would suit someone who enjoys being out on site, working closely with operational teams and seeing improvements delivered in practice.
You'll Be Responsible For
- Providing visible H&S leadership across multiple construction projects and supporting teams to maintain consistently high standards.
- Mentoring and developing junior members of the HSE team, supporting their technical knowledge, confidence, and professional development.
- Leading site inspections, targeted interventions, and improvement initiatives, identifying emerging risks and recurring issues before they result in incidents.
- Supporting project teams with practical and proportionate risk controls, particularly around higher-risk activities, and challenging standards where necessary.
- Coaching managers and supervisors to take ownership of health and safety within their teams and projects.
- Leading or supporting incident investigations, ensuring lessons learned are communicated and shared across the business.
- Using performance data and site intelligence to identify trends and target areas where improvement is required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
