Senior Health and Safety Manager
We are seeking a Senior Health and Safety Manager to join our Public Sector business, working across multiple projects at various stages in delivery and conversion.
About the Role
The Senior Health & Safety Manager is a recognised subject matter expert, responsible for embedding strategic health and safety thinking into business operations within complex construction and infrastructure environments. This role partners with project leaders and executive stakeholders to shape healthy and safe delivery outcomes, influence risk management culture, and implement continual improvement across teams and systems. You will influence business-wide standards, systems, and strategic risk controls across multiple projects.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the development and integration of strategic H&S initiatives
- Support work winning by contributing to bids, client engagement, and demonstrating H&S capability in complex construction proposals
- Provide subject matter expertise throughout the construction cycle
- Coach senior stakeholders on system performance and legislative obligations
- Champion behavioural safety and wellbeing campaigns across projects
- Influence SHELT agendas and drive strategic risk management improvements
- Represent the business in regulatory engagements, audits, and peer networks
- Promote innovation and knowledge sharing across the H&S community

Essential Capabilities including Qualifications and Experience
- NEBOSH Diploma and Chartered Member of IOSH (or equivalent status)
- Proven experience delivering health and safety in complex construction environments, preferably with a principal contractor or Tier 1 supply chain
- Experience influencing health and safety at organisational level
- Ability to embed risk management strategy across diverse project portfolios
- Proven skills in cultural leadership, mentoring, and continuous improvement
- Expertise in ISO 45001 systems, digital tools, and legislative interpretation
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills at senior level
- Audit and root cause analysis qualifications strongly preferred
- Recognised expertise in one or more high-risk construction disciplines (e.g. MEP systems, logistics strategy, temporary works, lifting operations, or complex interfaces) with ability to influence standards and controls across projects is desirable
- Experience in incident investigation
