Senior Healthcare Assistant Apprentice Opportunity
We’re excited to launch a new apprenticeship opportunity for Senior Healthcare Assistant Apprentices. These roles offer an enhanced apprenticeship salary, or, where applicable, Annex 30 will be applied. The role is ideal for those with some care experience who are ready to take the next step into a senior position.

Please Note
As this is an apprenticeship, we can only accept applicants who have had residence within the UK for 3 years or more. Due to funding rules, we can only offer positions for this apprenticeship to candidates who have no experience working as a Senior Healthcare Support Worker. Applicants must not hold a level 3 or higher qualification in a healthcare.
If you are already working in the NHS, it may be the case that Annex 30 would apply. This relates to the rate of pay you would receive while undertaking the apprenticeship. If you meet the criteria for Annex 30 your rate of pay will be preserved at your current level for the duration of the training period.

Role Description
Being a Senior Healthcare Assistant is a wonderful & really valued role. You will support the delivery of a range of personal care duties for patients and will learn to complete a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of registered healthcare professionals. Duties include:
- Assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, use of continence aids, catheter care, stoma care, measuring & monitoring patient output, removal of catheters, moving and handling, use of mobility appliances, correct patient positioning, assess pressure areas and skin integrity, ensuring patient safety, taking specimens including blood sugars, taking and recording physical measurements, observing patients for changes in condition, carrying out simple dressings, removal of venflons.
Sometimes the role will be tough, you may see and be involved in some difficult things involving our patients, be busy and deliver some very direct personal care. We don’t want to shy away from that and we do know that this part of the role isn’t for everyone, however, for the right people, providing all kinds of support to our patients to meet their needs will be what makes you thrive.

Progression
Successful completion of this Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship enables eligible learners to apply for progression on to a full-time, non-apprenticeship Adult Nursing degree programme at the University of Lancashire. Support will be provided throughout the application process and during the transition into university life. This support includes targeted guidance and enrichment sessions delivered collaboratively by the University of Lancashire and the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals (LTH) Practice-Based Pathway teams.
We are teaching hospitals, so there is a strong educational focus here, however we also know that some people want to undertake a role and thrive in it without feeling the need to undertake additional study so we will support you in whatever way works best for you.
Working Hours
We work on a shift basis as our patients need our care and attention 24 hours a day 7 days a week so you will usually work a four shift system; early, late, twilight and nights.
