Job Title: Healthcare Support Worker - Dermatology - Royal South Hants Hospital
Contract Type: Permanent
Under current Home Office rules, this role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.

If joining as a Band 2, this role requires a 9-month training period, so applicants must already have the right to work in the UK for the full duration. An excellent opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 3 Senior Health Care Assistant to work in the Southampton Dermatology Centre based at the Royal South Hants Hospital. The Southampton Dermatology Centre operates from 08.00 – 18.00 Monday to Friday, with some optional out-of-hours/weekend working.
You will be assisting in the management of the smooth running of clinics within the Department and Medical Outpatients Department and assisting the clinicians in our Day Case surgical rooms, also leading the new upcoming Skin Analytics photograph clinics, to name just a few of the varied job roles within the specialty of Dermatology.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the below:
- Work in a team of nursing staff and clinicians, ensuring high standards of care are developed and maintained within that team.
- Assist in the smooth running of the various clinics (includes preparing and setting up at the start of the day and closing the clinic rooms once clinics have finished).
- Give and receive regular reports on the progress of patients, immediately acting on any changes in the patient’s condition, and reporting them to the relevant healthcare professional.
- Assist clinicians during clinics, taking clinical photographs and observations, chaperoning patients, helping patients with undressing/dressing and mobilisation.

Person specification
Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 in care with acute units corresponding to specialty or equivalent experience.
- Completed secondary education.
- Experience in a caring role in an acute hospital environment.
- Understanding of acute hospital environment and the role of SHCA.
- Ability to demonstrate clarity and breadth in use of the English language.
- Completed Care Certificate.
- Requirement to be aware of and adhere to the care certificate standards; https://www.hee.nhs.uk/our-work/care-certificate.
- Demonstrates the ability to acknowledge changes in the patient’s physical/psychological needs and escalate as appropriate.
- Capable of completing core HCSW competencies and additional specific competencies related to the area of work within 12 months of appointment.
