Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Job Title: Senior Healthcare Support Worker
Contract Type: Permanent
Under current Home Office rules, this role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
Please be advised that this vacancy may close earlier than stated if we receive a large number of applications.
If joining as a Band 2, this role requires a 9-month training period, so applicants must already have the right to work in the UK for the full duration. If your current visa does not provide at least 9 months of remaining permission to work from the start date, we are unable to progress the application.
If you are joining as a Band 2 this position is part of a development programme that supports you to grow into a Band 3 role, with a pay increase upon successful completion. If you are already working in a Band 3 HCSW role in the NHS, we will assess your experience and responsibilities against the competencies required for this position. Where these competencies are met, we will match your current pay and banding.
This role requires acute hospital experience as a Healthcare Support Worker. It is most likely the successful candidate will already be working as a Band 3 HCSW.
Main duties of the job
As part of our team, you will work with the theatre and outpatient team at Lymington New Forest Hospital, as a healthcare assistant working for UHS. This is a rotational role working across our surgical unit, including Knightwood Day Ward if required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
