Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 + Pension + Discretionary Annual Bonus
I'm working with a small, well-established engineering consultancy just outside Central Bristol, who are looking to add an experienced Senior Highway Engineer to their growing team.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to work in a smaller, more personal environment where they can take real ownership of projects, work closely with clients, and have a genuine influence on the continued growth of the business.

Your role will include:
- Designing highway schemes, including complex junctions and roundabouts
- Preparing designs and supporting technical approval for Section 278 agreements
- Working in accordance with DMRB and TSRGD
- Designing and reviewing highway drainage
- Using Civil 3D or similar design software
- Working closely with clients and other disciplines
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
