Senior Highways Engineer

Location: Richmond-upon-Thames, London
Salary: £45k - £55k
Type: Permanent, Full Time

The Opportunity

I'm working with a growing, employee-owned civil and environmental engineering consultancy that is looking to strengthen its Highways and Transportation team in Richmond with an experienced Senior Highways Engineer. The consultancy has established a strong reputation for delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the highways, transportation and public realm sectors, working with a range of local authority and private-sector clients.

With a strong pipeline of projects and continued growth in the team, this is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Engineer who wants to take greater ownership of projects, develop client relationships and play an active role in the continued growth of the business.

You'll work across a varied portfolio of highways, public realm, active travel and road safety projects, with involvement from early feasibility and concept development through to detailed design and construction.

The Role

As a Senior Highways Engineer, you'll take responsibility for the technical delivery of projects while working closely with clients, stakeholders and other members of the design team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering highways, public realm, active travel and road safety schemes from feasibility through to detailed design and construction.
  • Taking technical responsibility for projects and design packages.
  • Producing and reviewing high-quality highways design deliverables.
  • Working directly with clients and stakeholders to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Supporting project and commercial management, including programmes, resources and deliverables.
  • Providing technical input into larger and more complex projects.
  • Supporting bids, fee proposals and business development activity.
  • Mentoring and supporting graduate and junior engineers.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider business.
  • Ensuring designs consider health and safety, sustainability and buildability throughout the project lifecycle.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
