Viridien / CGG is recruiting for the role of Senior HPC Engineer. Senior HPC Engineer to join a global HPC and Digital Platform team. The role combines advanced Linux system administration with technical project delivery, support for complex issues, and collaboration across regions.

What you’ll do

  • Act as the final escalation point for complex Linux issues and provide expert troubleshooting.
  • Support team leadership activities and act as deputy when required.
  • Lead deployment of new technologies and compute platforms through Jira workflows.
  • Manage technical projects from scoping and planning through deployment, documentation and handover.
  • Coordinate with global sites on installations, upgrades and infrastructure enhancements.
  • Provide 24×7 on-call support on rotation for incidents and maintenance.
  • Use Jira Service Management and ITSM tools to manage escalations, track issues and document changes.

What they’re looking for

  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.
  • At least five years of Linux administration experience, ideally in an HPC environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and IT service management skills are required.
  • Automation or configuration tool experience is required, with examples including Ansible, Puppet, GitLab and Terraform.
  • Scripting skills in Bash, Python or Perl are required.
  • You must have strong project, time management and communication skills.
  • The role asks for a proactive, adaptable mindset and a passion for learning.
  • You should show ability to mentor, guide and influence technical teams.

Additional role information

  • The role includes acting as deputy to the HPC Manager and developing leadership and management capabilities.
  • Preferred experience includes DevOps tools, cloud administration, virtualisation and HPC-related technologies.
  • Qualifications such as LPIC-2/3, CompTIA Linux+ and ITIL Foundation are preferred.
