The Vacancy

We are looking for an experienced Senior HR Advisor to join our Environmental Consulting HR team in a role where your advice, judgement and relationship-building skills will make a genuine difference.

Supporting a diverse division of approximately 2,000 employees across multiple business units, this is a varied and influential role where your advice will make a genuine difference. You will work closely with managers and senior leaders, helping them manage employee relations, absence, performance and wider people matters in a fair, practical and commercially aware way.

You will become a trusted point of contact for day-to-day HR advice, balancing the needs of our people with the priorities of the business. Alongside managing your own casework, you will help strengthen manager confidence, improve HR processes and contribute to divisional people projects.

This is a hands-on Senior HR Advisor role for someone who enjoys trusted ER casework, practical manager coaching and improving how HR supports a large, varied consultancy environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading a broad range of employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, probation, flexible working and performance management matters
  • Supporting managers through investigations, hearings and appeals
  • Advising on short-term and long-term sickness absence, occupational health referrals, return-to-work plans and reasonable adjustments
  • Coaching managers to apply HR policies and procedures confidently, consistently and fairly
  • Preparing clear, accurate and professional case correspondence and guidance
  • Identifying risks and presenting practical recommendations on complex or sensitive matters
  • Developing trusted relationships with managers and leaders across the division
  • Working collaboratively with HR colleagues to maintain accurate records, contracts and documentation
  • Contributing to HR projects, process improvements and new ways of working
  • Helping us develop efficient, digital and data-informed HR practices

What We're Looking For

You will be a confident and credible HR professional who can build positive working relationships while remaining comfortable challenging and influencing when necessary.

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience
  • Proven HR advisory experience, including responsibility for employee relations casework
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice
  • Experience managing disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance cases
  • The ability to provide balanced, practical and commercially focused advice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Sound judgement and a professional approach to confidential and sensitive matters
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
