Job Title: Senior Health and Safety Consultant (Embedded)
Location: Hybrid Working 3 days per week at client site (Central London)
Salary: £50- £55k per annum (DOE) + enhanced maternity/paternity and sick pay + further fantastic benefits package
Type: Permanent

About the Role
We are growing our Health and Safety team and looking for an experienced Senior Health and Safety Advisor/Consultant to provide expert advice, guidance, and leadership on all Health & Safety matters to ensure compliance with UK legislation, industry standards, and internal policies. The role supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organisation’s H&S management system and safety culture across projects, sites, and operations.
Responsibilities
Health & Safety Leadership
- Act as a senior point of contact for all H&S matters across allocated sites or business areas.
- Provide competent advice in line with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, relevant regulations, and best practice.
- Lead the implementation and monitoring of the organisation’s H&S policies, procedures, and standards.
- Champion a positive safety culture and mentor junior advisors and operational staff.

Risk Management & Compliance
- Conduct and review risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work (SSOW).
- Support the development and review of RAMS and permit-to-work systems (where applicable).
- Ensure statutory inspections (e.g., fire safety, LOLER, PUWER, COSHH, legionella, asbestos) are completed and documented.
Incident Management & Investigation
- Lead or support the investigation of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
- Produce detailed reports, root cause analyses, and corrective actions.
- Ensure timely completion of follow-up actions and lessons learned.
- Support RIDDOR reporting where required.
Monitoring, Auditing & Reporting
- Carry out regular site inspections, behavioural observations, and compliance audits.
- Produce monthly H&S performance reports, trend analyses, and KPIs for senior leadership.
- Support ISO-aligned management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, 14001 if applicable).
Training & Competence
- Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and H&S awareness sessions.
- Identify training needs and support development of competency matrices.
- Coach and influence managers, supervisors, and teams in safe working practices.
Emergency Preparedness
- Assist in the development and review of Emergency Response Plans and business continuity arrangements.
- Ensure drills, testing, and emergency training are completed and documented.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work collaboratively with project managers, facilities teams, contractors, and clients.
- Attend coordination meetings, pre-start meetings, and design risk reviews.
- Liaise with enforcing authorities (HSE, Fire & Rescue Service, Environmental Health) when required.

Skills and Experience
Essential
- NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards) / NVQ Level 5/6 in Occupational H&S.
- CertIOSH minimum; CMIOSH preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and industry standards.
- Proven experience advising, auditing, and guiding H&S practices in a similar environment.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and writing high-quality reports.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder-management skills.
