Human Factors Scientist
Location: Bristol, UK (Hybrid Working)
Salary: £38,000 – £65,000 (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
About Us
At Trimetis, we are a leading research and consultancy company delivering cutting-edge human factors research and solutions across defence, security, transport, and healthcare sectors. We apply behavioural science, systems thinking and design thinking to create safer, more effective technologies and environments.
We are expanding our Human Factors team and are seeking two enthusiastic, skilled Human Factors Scientists to work on exciting projects involving human-autonomy teaming, decision support systems, and operational environments.
Key Responsibilities
- The design, conduct and analysis of human factors/applied psychology research, including literature reviews, experiment design, qualitative user research and task analysis.
- The development and application of behavioural and cognitive psychological models and methods.
- HCI design and evaluation, including iterative user research, design and evaluation.
- The preparation and delivery of client-facing reports, presentations, and workshops.
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, academics, psychologists, UX specialists, military SMEs).
- Bid writing and business development activities.

Essential Requirements
- Degree or postgraduate qualification in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Psychology, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, or related discipline.
- Genuine intellectual curiosity and being comfortable with abstract thinking.
- Ability to think both critically and flexibly about topics.
- Experience in applying human factors/HCI methods to real-world problems.
- Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.
- Good report writing skills.
- Proficient in data analysis (e.g., SPSS, R, Python, Excel, Nvivo, Atlas.ti) and human factors tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a client-facing role.
- Eligible for UK security clearance (Baseline Personnel Security Standard as a minimum) – Trimetis will support the candidate to gain clearance.

Desirable Skills
- Experience working in defence, security, transport, healthcare, or energy sectors.
- Knowledge of relevant research and theories in human-autonomy teaming, sensemaking, distributed cognition, cyber security, trust.
- Previous consultancy experience or project management skills.
- Experience supervising research projects and mentoring others.
