Role

Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) is an over a trillion dollar investment management firm entrusted by investors around the globe to help them navigate changing market environments, so they can confidently realize their long-term objectives.

The Senior Index Portfolio Manager is responsible for the management, oversight, and development of passive fixed income portfolios for institutional clients. The role combines portfolio management expertise, quantitative analysis, risk management, client engagement, and innovation to deliver investment outcomes while driving continual improvement in investment processes and technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead portfolio construction, implementation, risk management, and performance oversight of passive fixed income mandates
  • Manage tracking error, transaction costs, benchmark alignment, and regulatory compliance
  • Analyse portfolio performance, attribution, risk exposures, and portfolio optimisation opportunities
  • Apply quantitative techniques and data-driven insights to improve portfolio outcomes and implementation efficiency
  • Champion the use of technology, coding, automation, and AI to enhance portfolio management, monitoring, reporting, and operational resilience
  • Develop analytical tools, automated workflows, and AI-enabled solutions that support investment decisions and team productivity
  • Collaborate with trading, research, operations, risk, technology, and client-facing teams
  • Support new product development, investment process improvements, and strategic initiatives
  • Represent the investment team in client meetings, due diligence reviews, and industry engagements
  • Mentor and develop junior portfolio managers and analysts

Skills & Qualifications

  • Extensive experience managing passive fixed income portfolios
  • Deep understanding of fixed income markets, portfolio construction, benchmark management, and risk analytics
  • Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities with experience in portfolio optimisation techniques
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, or similar programming languages, with a demonstrated ability to develop investment tools and automation solutions
  • Experience leveraging AI, data science, and technology to improve investment processes and scalability
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and collaboration capabilities
  • Sound understanding of regulatory, compliance, and governance requirements
  • CFA preferred

Education

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
