An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and innovative registered nurse to join the nursing informatics team as an ePMA Nurse on a fixed term/secondment. This role is ideal for a nurse with a passion for digital healthcare, medicines optimisation, and improving patient safety through technology.
You will support the ongoing development of the ePMA system across the Health Board until the end of November 2026. You will work collaboratively with clinical teams, pharmacy colleagues, digital specialists, and operational services to ensure the system is safe, effective, and meets the needs of patients and staff.
Main duties of the job
- Provide support to clinical staff, promoting confidence and competence in using the system.
- Investigate and resolve system issues, working closely with Digital Services and Pharmacy teams.
- Participate in system upgrades, user acceptance testing, and change management activities.
- Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Promote best practice in electronic prescribing and medicines administration to enhance patient safety and quality of care.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Service Management
- Lead on the E-Prescribing project with specialist knowledge and autonomy in order to achieve timescales and aims of the project, which is delivering the e-prescribing system across the Health Board. Work closely with senior health board nursing staff and stakeholders on progress where change is required.
- Lead on developing and planning the project’s business case, aims, objectives and timescales, in line with local need and based on their interpretation of national guidance policies. Ensures projects have well explained project initiation documentation with milestones and evaluations in place to ensure project progress and assurances.
- Identify, report and update risks as part of a formal risk register.
- Develop escalation plans and business as usual plans so that environments of care know what to do when systems malfunction.
- Regularly monitors and reviews plans, adjusting for change considering local need and response to changes in national policy or health board strategies.
- Produce and present reports on the project to relevant Executive Leads and Health Board Committees.
- Works closely with national partner organisations, representing the health board on designated project. Organisation such as Health Education in Wales (HEIW) and Digital Health Care Wales (DHCW).
- Works with our higher education providers to ensure students are well prepared to access and utilise nursing care systems.
- Provides specialist advice and support to Heads of Nursing and senior nurses involved in the processes to take forward service modernization and improvement.
- The post holder would be able to work on their own initiative, prioritizing their workload and working within timescales to deliver project requirements.

Service Improvement
- Summarises information and analyses data from a range of sources to develop business plans and timescale for delivery of the project aims.
- Interprets national guidelines for the health board in relevant project management and capital governance.
- Collaborates with senior nurses and multi-disciplinary staff, stakeholders, external agencies, service users in developing and delivering plans for the relevant project.
- Develops and undertakes audits and formal reviews of the project.
- Contributes to services reviews ensuring that any changes that have been implemented are in line with national guidelines, health board strategy and best practice.
- Supports Heads of Nursing and senior staff in development and delivery of robust service plans and business cases in implementing the project delivery aims.
Communications
- Communicates highly complex, sometimes contentious and sensitive, information relating to specific service changes. This would need highly developed communications skills in order to deliver complex information, persuade and negotiate change.
- Regularly negotiates with Heads of Nursing and senior staff in a financially constrained health economy regarding delivery of the project and impacts on quality and quantity of services, challenging practice and established management processes.
- Designs and presents workshops on business plans for the project to senior staff and health board committees.
- Persuades and influences project teams and stakeholders regarding project aims and timely completion.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with Heads of Nursing, senior staff, stakeholders and national groups related to the project. Represents health board on relevant national group.
Finance and Resources
- Promotes and secure values for money ensuring that the project operates in a cost efficient manner.
- Where Welsh government funding has been allocated, the post holder will monitor the spend in its entirety within the timeframes that have been allotted.
Personal and People Development and People Management
- Recruits and manages team to deliver project aims and deliver as required.
- Manages project support staff as relevant to the project. Oversees the recruitment, interview and retention of staff required to deliver the project, often for a short time period.
- Designs, organises and delivers any training needed for staff in relation to the new project.
- Provides support and learning opportunities to others to improve their knowledge, especially in relation to the specific project and designs teaching material regarding the new project. Delivers this in appropriate format i.e. on ward or in classroom settings.
- Leads on appropriate coaching, mentoring, resource planning, performance management and individual development need to achieve the project aims.
- Leads on providing workshops and forums for discussion and information about the new project for staff and service users.
- Prepares for and takes an active part in the PADR process in accordance with the organisation’s policy.

- Utilises relevant software systems to record information e.g. Excel, Welsh Patient Administration Record, Wales National Care Record, Datix.

Qualifications And Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification
- Current NMC registration
- Postgraduate diploma level or equivalent experience
- Understanding of project managements
- Knowledge of NHS planning processes
