Senior Infrastructure Engineer
On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer for a 12 month (Inside IR35) contract. Hybrid working from any DWP hub in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield.
DWP Digital is seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to support ORCA, a critical Fraud & Error platform hosted within a Linux based on premise infrastructure environment. This is an opportunity to join a highly experienced team responsible for ensuring the stability, scalability and ongoing enhancement of a business critical application estate.
Working closely with senior technical stakeholders, you will take ownership of infrastructure services, support changes and enhancements, investigate incidents and provide technical guidance on the future direction of the platform. You will work alongside a Senior DevOps Engineer to support and improve a key service within DWP.
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Manage and maintain on premise infrastructure environments.
- Administer virtual servers, storage, networking and backup solutions.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues using command line tools.
- Investigate infrastructure incidents, conduct root cause analysis and implement effective resolutions.
- Develop and maintain scripting solutions to support automation and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with application teams and on premise support teams, including Fabric and other infrastructure functions, to ensure service reliability and operational excellence.

Essential:
- Proven experience as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, managing and maintaining on premise infrastructure.
- Experience supporting Linux based infrastructure environments.
- Experience administering virtual servers, storage, networking and backup solutions.
- Linux and scripting experience.
- Strong troubleshooting, incident management and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to lead infrastructure changes, managing implementation, testing, risk assessment and stakeholder communication.
- SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
